So this is what happens when you decide to hold the line, rather than scrapping something that's not working for the next iteration. 11 years and counting on this one...

That's an interesting idea. I saw that thing earlier today where someone built a Wikipedia Trends. Anyone know of other interesting uses of Wikipedia?

I feel for the guy. At least he tried to put a spin on the "argument" that your startup should use metrics to make decisions. We're gonna beat that horse 'til its dead.

That's impressive, but it seems like more of an exercise for the developer. Its probably something I'd look at once and forget about.

Adding a whole new level to the creepiness of Chatroulette. Exactly what it needed! If only those dudes knew their location could be pinpointed, maybe it would make it a bit more bearable.

If you're really good, your boss is going to do everything they can to get you to stay. This is great advice on how to leave as quickly and painlessly as possible. I usually thought that if someone is interviewing with you they probably mad

I have a feeling this writer has no idea who 37signals is. He's probably realizing right about now that he's stepped on a land mine with exploding 37signals fanboys. Edit: No offense to fans of 37signals (I read svn). This guy is about to g

The best I've seen is Icon Factory, I have a feeling they're pricey though :) They've done the icons for Coda, Windows XP, and others I believe. http://iconfactory.com/design/icon

Getting new users to stick is key, and very difficult. But there's a lot more too it than your registration pages and marketing videos. All that stuff guides a user to try it out, but its when they log in for the first time when the challen

Out of curiosity, did he ask for equity? I didn't catch that in your summary, it seemed like he's willing to give you ~10 hours a month. Either way I'd see if he could make those introductions first, proving that he's good partner. If he ca

Agree with the others, buying links isn't worth it. Google will eventually catch on and devalue it, so it's a waste in the end. Focus on sites/bloggers where your potential users are. The most useful links are the one's that actually drive

Interesting thoughts on reputation management. I'm not at this level, but I have a similar reaction when I've been interviewed or had someone writing a review of what I'm working on. The first thing I do when it's posted is read it hoping t

Not sure how conclusive that really is. To me their heat map tells me that people are blind to results that aren't at the top of the page. If the real-time results were at the top I'm sure people would pay more attention to them.

While I think this is correct, I'm not sure how practical it is. For example, with my startup I'm trying to be as cost conscious as possible. Sure it would be nice to have one person in charge of UX and one person doing the graphics (people

Look at the other recent articles this guy has written. http://www.businessinsider.com/nicholas-carlson Are 3 articles about Facebook in one day really necessary? I guess if you throw enough stuff up there something will eventually stick.

It all depends on your transaction volume. If you don't run that many transactions then all you have to do is fill out a form saying you're complying. If your transaction volume is high, for example let's say Walmart, then the level of scru

I've thought about this a lot as well, its a tougher problem to crack than meets the eye. I started working on something like this that I ended up scrapping to solve the payment tracking part first. That is also a really tough problem :)

I see Amazon, eBay, etc.. it would be cool if they added something like Milo for local search. Might be a better use case (save money by finding a lower price for something locally)

Seems like a slightly different way of doing things. You can already submit an XML sitemap via Google web master tools, in a way it's accomplishing the same thing (telling them what to crawl). It's not real time but the premise is the same.
