I just hope LA can carve out it's own culture and not become the next SV. I really, really don't want that.

English CC for English speaking countries is actually for deaf people. There's some new rule/law that is actually making websites include English CC's in order to be compliant, though I'm not sure what the penalty is for

I imagine it'd be better if you have a case on it (which apparently is necessary because it's broken easily)

Yeah I agree it's an incredibly clunky and slow user experience that seems to have limited application. Gambling I think is another decent use.

This bums me out so much. I really, really love my 2015 MBP and 2013 MBAir and I'm afraid they were some of the last good releases. I hope apple can get their shit together before I'm in the market to get a new laptop.

If a bottleneck is dom manipulation, then something that smartly batches them and reduces the number of times it's called would help. How would that not apply to Atom?

I wonder how much the pervasiveness of dating apps has to do with this as well. One of the bigger social motivators for my generation growing up was "are members of the opposite sex gonna be there?". Nowadays a lot of people meet

Upgrading for me left me with missing apps and having to fix homebrew and a bunch of other CLI tools and their deps. First time I've ever run into problems upgrading my macos, and will definitely wait a while and look for threads like

Unfortunately I don't think there is much to do about it. The strategy I've adopted the past couple years is to just grin and bear it and get out ASAP. Even if I get an offer (not usually in these cases, because the interviewer is

Anecdotal, but I actually work with someone who was in finance making 10x what the average programmer makes who gave it all up in his late 20's to code because he felt at the end of the day he was just ripping people off and morally ha

I have always been interested in STEM, even growing up, but I was definitely more interested in just having fun and being cool all the way through college. I played sports my whole life at a pretty high level and basically did the bare mini

I'll be honest, the only time I try to tweak my VIM setup to be close to an IDE is when I have no other options (developing on a remote box). It's always a pretty frustrating experience IMO.

Something I was doing recently required an API with sports scores and I found out how astronomically expensive sports API's are, so I gave this a shot on an ESPN page with game statistics ( http://www.espn.com/nba/g

I hate the idea of that just as much as you do, but you can always add the coinhive domain to your blocklist and be fine (just as you do with ad providers). Also, I'd be willing to bet bad Ads are still way more of a cause of CPU spike

Well, Coinhive has nothing to do with how certain people implement their lib, they just provide it. It's really up to the site owner to ask for permission to run it instead of forcing it (like ads).

I agree. You don't just randomly get an urge to do something you otherwise weren't already thinking about in some way. You just are not as good at caring/thinking about the consequences.

I work in a Regus office in CA, and they are constantly having issues. The washers/dryers are always broken, the AC has to be fixed every other week, yesterday they had a plumbing issue and the water was out so no one could get the &#x

Yeah, I'll reluctantly reveal I'm a 'programmer' sometimes, but most the times I'll avoid the question. It's especially true in certain cities, where the first thing people ask you is "Where do you work&#x

That's my thinking as well. I printed out a cheat sheet, pasted it to my cubicle wall, installed VIM emulation in my IDE (I still think this is the best route for those used to their IDE's, provided it's a good VIM emulator),

You didn't miss anything, it's very easy to deploy a bug in a smart contract and why anyone using it for anything important should have their contracts be audited by a third party professional(s).

I've had sleeping issues since I was a kid so mine are probably a bit skewed. Weekdays, on a good night, 4-6 hours. Anything below 4 hours is a bad night and does happen more than I wish. Weekends: 6-8 hours If I get 4 or less hours of

I kind of feel like the web and all that's gone into it is similar to all the work that went into the JVM to make it what it is. Kind of ridiculous, the platform we are on and the sheer amount of intelligence and hard work to make it a
