Shitty cash hungry monopoly like OpenStreetMap? I’m ready to bet Google Maps dying could lead to a huge interest in improving OSM instead of the opposite today. Also email is an interoperable standard so I don’t see a monopoly coming soon,

The IE monopoly era (with its drawbacks) was in the 00's with the infamous IE6[0]. The lawsuit you mention is unrelated, it was because of the bundling of IE with Windows, notably in Windows 98 a few years before. [0] https://

Maybe someone more knowledgable on Apple history can correct me but aren't MacBooks being attractive to developers due to the Unix layer a happy accident? Apple never made a plan for that, and I don't think they really care more a

Same here, I'm lucky to go through this as the most peaceful time in my life. I exercise and meditate a lot, and enjoy long afternoons in the garden, watching the small life going on and prospering, in the calm of now nearly empty road

I had maybe one or two kernel panics since OS 10.1 more than 15 years ago, even with hackintoshes or water damaged MacBooks, so that would be a real shame if that’s due to Catalina and it’s not a hardware problem.

The term "pro-life" may creates a false dichotomy when put in that way, but if you think at it as the crux of the argument not so much. Case in point you kind of miss it in your last sentence and have it in the opposite: if a foet

What you say makes sense, the problem is that in the (strange?) world we live in I have more trust in Apple than in my government regarding my data, both technically and from an incentive perspective.

I don't really understand the monopoly accusation. The EU investigation is related to Apple Pay, iOS market share is less than 30% there.

You are overly optimistic with the timeline. No, React had not "won" by 2015, not even by 2016[0]. Also the burn of more than half a decade is very real, both on developers and in codebases. [0] http://2016.stateofjs.com

I agree that IF is for me the easiest way to lose weight, people should really give it a try. But in regards to the need of something magical because it’s difficult, as someone who has lost a lot of weight and stopped smoking, the latter wa

Yes we are an Agency, so we are fortunately able to choose the stack, but still have to convince (it hopefully gives us an edge on pricing). It’s a reality clients are looking for buzzwords because that’s what they hear and they want indust

It’s only my anecdotal experience but part of the reason for me is that a lot of men are not even trying (edit: anymore) and simply more or less consciously gave up. In my days even as a nerd I tried to fit in, go to parties, bars, tried to

Regarding the landscape my explanation is that it hasn't really changed: the kind of companies driven by hacker ethos were a very tiny part in the 90's, the most part of the industry was enterprise software development. The catch
