Facebook's monopoly is a problem because, increasingly, Facebook's dopamine-driven tools replaces traditional civic society. They're easier. They're superficially more pleasing. They're often addictive. And any comp

Look up phimosis. At two minute Google search could have found this. It's a valid medical reason for the operation. Not to mention the above mentioned. Not only do your facts not hold up to a brief Google, but the reputation of the peo

Is this a case where a government has compromised a system, and the administrators are legally bound to remain quiet about it? If so, why not compromise the system yourself, and then advertise that? Accidentally leaving your SSL private key

I saw a fair bit of anti-British thinking in the European deputies. I sense France and Germany would be able to go through with a few things that previously they couldn't. It's hard to say if this would actually benefit Europe. It

This is the most important point in my opinion. If you can get the main media outlets to all tell one story, it doesn't matter if one media outlet tells the real story: The others will drown it out. And if the 'real' story se

Isn't the Web a competitor to the App Store? Especially when web apps start to catch up with native apps (and Santa tracker and the rest of Google's Polymer apps seem to suggest this is only a year or so away, and FirefoxOS has ce

I think the point is that email signup would be preferable for those who don't want to give it their personal phone number.

Now all my bookmarks, history, passwords and the like will be stored on a centralized server? The decentralization, especially in the wake of the NSA/GCHQ revelations, was one of its main advantages. Sigh. I may well have to turn Firef

I fear the Brits are more pessimistic about their government than US citizens. Which I've always felt dangerous - on a personal, social and democratic level - if combined with isolation from the country's political system.

I often wonder why it's mostly always The Guardian. It's surely not the only left-wing newspaper out there. I wonder if having the Scott Trust[1] as its backer gives it has more freedom in these matters compared to other papers. [

This is very interesting development in European politics and "Europe's last dictatorship". Especially since the 'threat' of China often seems to be one thing that can unite the member states.

This actually makes sense. The Google play services do seem to offer more. But do I trust Google's services (especially ones that are open, although I doubt this is or was the case with games) anymore? No. I trust them about as much as I tr

I'm reminded of the story about an angry RMS accosting some devs saying they should be creating their own open APIs rather than using X company's closed API. It turns out Open Source's weird uncle was right again.

So, 1) Competitors use Google's APIs based on open standards for their own advantage. 2) Google gets annoyed. 3) Google stops supporting open standards. Well, that's my honeymoon with Google over. It seems a naive mistake to have assume an
