Are we counting straight-up professional bloggers too? Kottke, John Gruber, the whole BoingBoing team, etc. Makes you think, doesn't it? Maybe blogging was a little bit bigger than it was made out to be just a few short years ago.

It's surprising how many waves this announcement has made over the last few days. My question is: why now? What took so long?

Agreed. While the intent (and design) of this app are great, nothing is better than doing something proactive when you're bored. Something as simple as writing (even if you don't know what to write), or drawing (even if you think

Just did the math (based on 2012 revenue and reported # of employees), and yup, $600k is what Google could easily afford for a single employee (with a good $400k left over for business expenses, per employee). That's amazing.

Great idea, why limit it to just Chrome? Of course, implementing something like this would require a number of additional updates. And this still doesn't directly address the issue due to custom, large scripts for site-specific functio

I want to believe otherwise, but is this just a case of being one in the crowd, despite the fact the crowd may be remarkably small? Google clearly wants to move users to G+, and we've been hearing for years now how "RSS is dead,&q

Feedly is the best I've tried so far. They allow so much customization that it can be daunting at first, but once you've got everything setup it can be just as good as – if not better than – Google Reader.

You can easily change Feedly settings to provide you with just that.

Part of this is, I believe, attributed to shiny ball syndrome. We see and hear about these companies being acquired for 1,000,000,000 and think: "Why aren't I doing that?" Another part is actually wanting to do work that'

Certainly is. The problem is that the link seems to get smaller and more hidden with each update. Even without seeing the numbers I think it's obvious why they're doing it, I'm just wondering: is there a better way to callout

Looks great, absolutely. My concern is why websites like this tend to "hide" or de-value the login link. I regularly have to access the Dropbox website, but with every change they make the login button seems to get smaller and sma

I agree with your conclusion mostly, but can you name any examples of large investments with an immediate, greater return? Not arguing, just looking for solid examples to go by.

Particularly interesting because this was written ten years ago! The transparency of the web makes it easy to fall into the trap of believing that many of the recent successes of businesses was "overnight," but that's hardly ever the case.

One engineer donating $50k is great. One teacher-focused engineer doing a decent job at influencing and educating others to do more with their money is... priceless? It's good that Mr. Trigg is doing what he can, but discounting the ability

It's great to see someone find success from things they've built. Marco is a solid example of what many of us strive to be: someone who builds things because it's what we love doing (and because at least one person out there needs/wants it)

It's certainly possible to buy both innovation and relevance. Innovation is possible by acquiring already-innovative companies and letting them flourish as if you hadn't bought them, then stick your name on the work they produce. Relevance

Why does this seem so scary/amazing? It's basically taking what computers already do really well today and adding a language "mask" onto it. Yet it still blows me away.
