We can all over estimate our intelligence. I remember clearly getting some email from a list, downloading some weird thing and trying it. I remember clearly deciding it was just total junk - it took me about 5 minutes - and I deleted it. Of

Okay, so my first experiment was to try to think without language. Go ahead, you try it. I can't do it. So a simple conclusion is that language gives rise to what we call thought. However, I do some things - which I do not call thought

I found the concept of redux - a single source of truth for the state of your app - compelling. But the implementation cost was horrendous. As a developer I am constantly aware of the cost benefit of tools, libs, etc. The benefit of redux w

One problem I see is the way the choice of takeaway food vs home cooking is framed. Think popcorn. You can buy a bag of pre-popped popcorn - I guess that is take away. You can make popcorn at home putting a package in the microwave. Or you

For niche uses of database I am sure this is true. But if you are not in that niche, then Postgresql is usually a much better choice. For example Firefox uses SQLite, because it wants to store lots of application specific data. It is good f

Your question is wrong. Your goal should not to be employable, 'get gigs'. We live in a time where the job market is shrinking, jobs are fewer, more applicants, lower wages, etc. If you rely on employers for your livelihood you ar

I have an axe to grind, so let me be clear: I believe there is strong evidence that we have moved from something approaching a democracy to a corpocracy. I expect many people will tune this out, but here is the question, crucial one. Who Be

Thanks for the reply. It is an interesting question, because the truth is that I don't know. At one point, very long ago, (VLG) I knew nothing about computers at all but would by "Byte" magazine (I told you VLG) and read it.

I get what you are saying that it is more succinct. However the next statement "it is not true to say ..." confuses me. In fact there are many cases where I did not know that I did not know something important. I was cross country

I would seriously consider kintsugi for aesthetic reasons. You do not have to go with the gold thing. Basic urushi is black so you could go with just black. You can also get Urushi in quite a wonderful red. And there is truly spectacular or

Larger scale software development is best done as a collaborative effort. The essence of that is the "co". Literally working together. How is this best done? We have the idea that leaders make this happen, but as the top comment
