And how is this ANY different from Google which knows far more about you then Facebook ? Oh that's right. It isn't. Which makes this idea that Facebook is going to die as realistic as Google is going to die.

I highly recommend iStat Menus / MenuMeters for monitoring. Also if you run "sudo fs_usage" in the Terminal you can see what is accessing the disk. This can easily show what new app you've installed is causing problems. Likewise learn about

Remind me again why anybody is still using Linode ? Poor uptime and a disgraceful attitude towards security. ANY service provider that hides the facts behind major security incidents from their customers should never be used. I guess their

Yes because finding ways to not insert a new row for each tweet is a classic sign of someone not thinking. From the UI Twitter only shows tweets to the minute so you could imagine that there is an optimisation there for merging retweets wit

Have you EVER actually worked on a reasonably sized system ? Because there are a lot more contributors to request/response performance than just database indexes. Especially when you are at the scale of Paypal.

Remember that's 10K requests for $5 NOW. We could see it jump back to its original price at any time of Google's choosing which would have been $40. But the 10K requests bit is arbitrary. My point is that it is not mostly free. It's not rea

I think you misread what I said. It was that IF I was going to spend money on a mapping API I would rather use it to improve an open platform. Especially for something as key as mapping.

Google didn't invent nor has a monopoly on autonomous driving cars. They are one of MANY players. So pretty sure everyone else will be able to change every market out there as well.

It's 50c per 1000 requests. So if you were building a semi-popular website or iPhone app with 10K requests/day it would be $150 a month. In what bizarro world is that mostly free ?

Definitely more than a map. Google's latest revenue source. So unfortunately as a developer I would rather spend my efforts helping to improve OpenStreetMap.

Your definition of thuggish seems a bit off. Thug = a common criminal, who treats others violently and roughly. It's akin to calling someone 'white trash'.

I really don't know where to start with this ridiculous diatribe. Firstly as for your MacBook Air. OSX runs fine with 2GB and shouldn't be swapping constantly for browsing. And not sure why you are complaining that you got 200 euros for a 4
