Many of my friends don't live in the same country. So phone or video chat is impossible and using the postal system is just being stupid.

Emphasis on Facebook to YOU. I don't have any of the same problems you do. So for me there is a strong and obvious relationship between the maturity of your friends and the maturity of their posts.

And older people could say exactly the same thing about email, IM and discussion forums like HN. I know far more people who check their email religiously than check Facebook.

Your analogy and your point is misguided. In another 15 years. MySQL will be legacy and PostgreSQL will be a footnote in history. Because what you fail to understand is that people aren't switching from SQL to SQL they are switching to NoSQ

Open source projects can't pay royalties. But people who use them can be forced to. The idea that VP8/VP9 will gain traction and remain royalty free is laughable.

Exactly the patent threat will come from the MPEG-LA or the members directly. Because if VP9 is indeed similar to H.265 then you I would imagine a patent is being infringed somewhere. And since Google doesn't provide patent indemnification

I know Apple uses SAP/Oracle and imagine the others would be similar. But they use Oracle Cluster i.e. multi-master so it isn't monolithic like say a giant PostgreSQL database would be.

I would prefer a car company that actually understands how to make and sell millions of safe and reliable products. Google has has a history of failing when it comes to shipping high quality hardware products.

I'm confused but didn't Apple just do this for two operating systems. And then moved their entire OSX and iOS development community as well ?

Explains the recent move to trick all the YouTube users into signing up for Google+. I mean seriously why does creating a private video playlist require a public Google+ page.

So Google is counting YouTube users who save videos to their playlist as "active users". Absolutely disgraceful. I feel sorry for advertisers that are going to be tricked by this.

H.264 has never mattered for developers either. Windows, OSX, iOS and Linux have all had OS libraries that developers could use to handle H.264 content. This will continue with H.265.

I am well aware that Flash can act as a container. But that container by default will have H.265 since Adobe is already a licensee. So why would anybody not use it ? And Google Glass is vapourware and YouTube/Chrome supports H.264 so not bu

Whether it is built into the browser or not means nothing so long as Flash dominates web video. And Adobe will already need to license H.265 because of Premiere. So VP9 is pretty much a non-starter.
