Oops, sorry I never follow this up. What libraries like Backbone all have in common at the core is that they use setter methods to trigger custom bound listeners/events . When these custom events are fired, they update the multiple variable

As a designer first and foremost, I've only recently discovered using getter/setter JavaScript functions as a way of faking MVC. It's definitely something worth looking into if you can't warrant the use of a full library like BackboneJS.

Agreed, at first glance I assumed it was a web-based editor like the Aviary suite of tools. Being CSS3 based also threw me completely. Adobe has already demoed some great things with their canvas export functionality. One would also assume

Showing off the benefits of HTML5 while requiring Silverlight to watch the videos? That was a bit odd.

I wonder what the relation is between this story and the upcoming Dehli Commonwealth Games. I'm sure there's an element of "putting up a front", in a similar way to China spray painting their grass green and building walls around their poor

Conversely, some times I have zero interest in reading a companies blog, or what awards they won from PC Magazine back in 1999. You make it sound like a lot of these websites even have more to offer? Sometimes a product is just a product. A

This reminds me of the good old days of searching Limewire for "password .txt .rtf .doc". It's incredible what folders and documents people would foolishly share. But the most important thing I learned is this: email account passwords are w

This article was annoyingly over-written. You can find a much simpler explanation on the landing page of http://www.lipsum.com/ .

I can't belive no-one has been taken aback by your airbags are useless comment! Side airbags? Curtain airbags? All of these are proven to reduce that chance of brain damage and death in various impacts. "Research conducted in the USA estima

Damn, I've been working on a web-based version on and off for a while now. I guess I won't find the time to finish it, especially if this gets approved.

Is there a list of all the hidden HN pages located somewhere? There appear to be a few pages that you can't get to in your top navigation bar, eg: - http://news.ycombinator.com/best - http://news.ycombinator.com/noobstories - http://ne

Woops, I missed this reply. I'm a front end developer working on intranet software - we all run server 2008 or win7 so we can build/install/test. Try getting the Adobe Creative Suite to run on any version of Server. That's a bit of fun ;)

It does get frustrating when you have an article with 40 or so comments, and only the last two visible. I like Disqus a lot, but if it simply doesn't work - it doesn't work.

If you just look at the functionality delivered by some of those apps, you're really only paying for the design. $20 for a graph? €19 for VLC? EDIT: Massive props to Transmit and Kalaideoscope, that goes without saying, but there are some c

From a design perspective, your fonts really don't degrade well on Windows. Your Lucida Grande just degrades to (very) BIG old ugly Arial without a line-height or size set. Also, your Avant Garde "See Plans and Pricing" defaults to Times Ne

More so simply dress up something incredibly simple (with a brand name and implied value) and chuck an exhorbitant price tag on it.
