Musk has done great things, but he's wrong about vision alone being good enough. The assertion that humans use vision alone to drive is nice marketing, but not good enginnering. Vision is easily fooled. Lidar and radar provide very val

Physical hardware disconnect for mic and camera is badly needed. I've a square of duct tape I stick over the camera of a 2.5k laptop. Madness.

In hardware (chip) design code verification is done by seperarate engineers. Design engineers have some test code to kick the tyres, but sign off is done independently and rigoirlsy, with functional coverage linked to specification document

I agree, if an amateur like me can articulate an issue I've no doubt the experts are well aware of it. However it does not change the fact that there is no real intelligence, it's fancy pattern matching that works when given enoug

It's not the cameras that worry me, it's the whole issue that AI is not remotely intelligent. Image recognition is step 1, and NNs are pretty good at it, but can still be fooled. However taking those images, properly interpreting

I've hit heavy swapping cases a few times on my home linux box and was dissapointed in oom killer. I wanted it to kill something so I could get my system back, but it didn't seem to trigger. Instead the system became progressively

I wrote some code (I'm an engineer) that ended up being the core logic of a HW driver that was linked to linux. One of the actions by the SW dev team was to reformat it to 80 chars wide. Made it less readable by a long way, even spilt

I use systemverilog daily, and it's very powerful. What does myhdl bring that's a game changer or even significant advantage in practice? SV has quite powerful synatx, especially for verification, and it seems this replicates the

I've watched many of your videos and love your approach to building complex features, building the skeleton first with asserts for uimplemeted code paths. However I'd love to see how you got started, the first early (before gui) s

May be true of analog EEs, but more than half of EEs I work with, and all the good ones, can script well. They use perl/python for day to day, and tcl to interact with tools. The number who can use tcl well is a lot lower than those wh

All EDA uses tcl, so no surprise Intel would too. A while back I saw some vendors tried to make perl or python an option, but tcl is the de facto language in this space those vendors often abandoned the having multiple scripting interfaces

Thanks. You definitely don't want the junction temp anywhere near 125c, the leakage would be very high. I thought most processors in due temp was 75-85c max, and will throttle severely if it goes above that.

What is the cold temp helping with? AFAIK transistors no longer get faster at cold, at least since 16nm the perforamce at sub 1V thin-ox transistors is pretty flat with temperature. Cold helps a lot with power though, leakage at hot (100C)

Agreed. The misuse of media (social and 'news') is the root of the rot. Its a shame in a first world country, thst so much of the population is so intentionally misinformed, and there seems to be no appetite to fix it.

I use TCL as I use EDA SW a lot, but I found the most horrible feature of TCLs language design, comments are not comments. A comment is a command to ignore the line. However a comment with a curly brace in it can break control flow, as its

FPGAs let you define the structure of the hardware, and implementing fixed point is a lot simpler in terms of logic gages used and usually higher performance. You absolutely could use floating point, but the HW cost would be high, so most f

It is a bit much that ECC is only availble on xeons, as ecc is incredibly cheap in terms of circuitry. Glad to see AMD are including it on mid end products.

This is interesting, it seems like it may in fact be testing by looping, given it took a minute, and didn't conclude. For hardware design there are logic equivalence checking tools that work very differently - they essentially work by
