I have a 5 year old home server I'd love to replace as it idles at 40w, while an old laptop that could do the job idles at 12w. What I'd like to do is merge that and my old NAS, so ideally somethig with a few sata slots, m2 ssd, a

Teams screen sharing annotation is abysmal. Other than that I can live with it, but as an engineer, not being able to annotate a live screen is really frustrating.

It is effectively an issue, see https://wiki.tcl-lang.org/page/Why+can+I+not+place+unmatched... If it's a comment in a proc with an unbalanced brace, it parses differently. That's not intuitive or sane IMHO.

I use tcl in EDA reguarly also. It's quirky, but useful. I'd not choose it for anything non EDA today, but it works well in that niche. The most horrific thing I discovered about tcl is that curly braces within comments can affect

I really like vivado. Compared with ASIC EDA tools it's amazing. Perjaps it's my EE and ASIC deign background that colours my impression of it, but I've found it works really well. I especially like using the elaborated desig

Apple allow me to buy stuff with my apple account on other devices, apple music, iTunes, etc. So clearly if I'm giving them money they are just fine with non apple devices. All I want to do here is change thr screen time allowance on m

This kind of policy is why I refuse to buy apple. My 14yr old daughter has an iPhone and I cannot administer it as a parent without owning an iPhone or similar device myself. A basic Web UI is all that's needed to access the screen tim

Got bitten by the big number being added to small number when converting code from double precision to single precision, hard to track down when subtle errors get introduced due to this.

Some apps tend to max out the cpu. The amount of times I'm just doing email and my laptop cpu spins up with all 8 cores maxed out due to a runaway process like mcafee virus scan or something similar is not fun. So I'd assume they

The fourier transform. Encountered it first in my undergrad engineering degree, it was presented as dry mathematics, with no real explanation, just threw complex exponentials at us, and pages of derivations. Years later I actually use it in

I often wonder why c did not deprecate the bad bits, like the dodgy string functions should at least be behind a switch to enable, like --enable-strcat or something. Even the printf bug when passing a single argument is easily fixed by requ

There was no intention to scare them, I was just talking about what it has been doing, my daughter was the one who worried about what it could do, not what it is doing. As I said I immediately down played it to calm her concerns, but you ha

It's interesting you have the perspective that hardware has realtiveley few states. It can be the case, but there are very complex interactions between functions also. A million gate design is realatively modest by modern standards, an

I know hardware isn't 100% precitable, which is why we expliclty try to test that behaviour through randomized testing, formal proofs, etc. I'm not mocking anything, I'm just saying it's possible to attempt to cover diff
