I had visions of toothpaste and hemorrhoid cream in mind when I composed the riff. Sensible brands, of course.

I'd love to see your medicine cabinet and sock/underwear drawer.

Excellent. I shall re-send them an undisputed invoice they haven't managed to pay since 2011. Great tech, total amateurs running the business side. Proof anyone can IPO if you pay the right people the right fees. Edit: downvote away, b

Appreciate the radial vs vertical choice on the knobs. Nice touch.

Cygwin is quite slow due to problems emulating fork (large builds take forever!), plus the package support is spotty. I'm excited because I can eventually ditch Cygwin and VMs for much of my Linux compatibility testing and cross-platfo

There are, of course, choices beyond Bash, Batch and PowerShell. I'm a Microsoft fanboy and I find Python far more structured and faster than any of the above for anything beyond the most simple shell scripts. (If only the inventor of

We're also a lot older now and many realize the "us versus them" thing wasn't helpful. Shame the article opens with such a flattering retelling of a wonky strategy. It was always the data, not the code. Try and find an o

Thank you. ANSI C defines a language containing 32 words. And one of them is "register."

"...you don't need C. Haskell will give you the same performance, or better, and cut your development and maintenance costs by 75 to 90 percent as well." I want both the compiler from the year 2030 and the drugs this guy has.

It's a bar chart; you're free to plot whatever subset of data you wish. If you're working with a team and you can't represent at least the next few weeks on a Gantt chart you're not engineering--you're playing

Likewise the legal system lets you file a complaint against anyone for anything. You pick and choose based on likely results. Domino theory does not apply here.

This is the perfect example of the content-free HN posts that are topping the charts lately. It contains not a single example of a "helpful error message." Nor a single line of code from the language in question. Just a 173 word f

I said "widely available." When distros bundle an ffmpeg encoder, it's widely available. When libsndfile and sox support it, the format migrates toward common use. "build ffmpeg" is a nonstarter for most mortals.

There is no excuse for MP3 in 2016. Like parents who eagerly took "baby's first step" photos with the first iPhone camera... oops. As technologists and influencers we should help migrate people forward. Ya hear me, SoundCloud

http://caniuse.com/#feat=opus Strangely absent across all mobile platforms at the moment. And even Firefox won't play it as .webm only .ogg. (Huh?) Man, why is audio always so wonky?

I'm aware of at least two (actual) MPEG-4 lossless formats (MPEG-4 ALS and MPEG-4 SLS). ALAC is just a random format worse than the existing one at the time, stuffed in a .m4a container. (Apparently .caf as well.)
