Yeah, "Open core" doesn't have a great definition. Certainly I agree this is a pretty contained feature, and I shouldn't have written "switching ... to an open core model" given the evidence in this thread. But

I'm really upset that this happened to you folks, and it's scary, because incident could just as easily have happened to us at Zulip (or any other OSS app that connects to self-hosted servers!). I expect we'll never get a use

Slack and all its clones are based on the chat room model, which structurally has the problem described in this article (and many others for productivity, such as wasting attention). Fundamentally, the chatroom model pioneered by IRC is poo

Can you share what server this was (here or in chat.zulip.org)? Essentially every bit of feedback we get on performance is that Zulip is much snappier than Slack. Given that you mention a big public server, it's likely caused by an is

Zulip as a company is extremely different a massively-VC-funded-and-then-go-public company like Slack: * 100% of the software we write is FOSS. * We intentionally haven't taken VC funding despite plenty of opportunity to do so, to ens

I don't think it's possible for this sort of individual, opt-in action to be material to the climate problem; problems at this scale can only be solved by government action. If Stripe raises $30M/year from this program, it&#
