Yeah that's a disaster, many applications/pods/docker containers store secrets in the environment. Even if it doesn't expose the service from the outside due to firewalls etc, its a(nother) way in for malicious internal

Yeah that's the biggest problem, a complex web of dependencies on old legacy applications built using JDK 8/11, not so much any language changes. Sometimes there's just no options to upgrade e.g. companies stuck on Oracle 12,
