On the same note - don’t subsidize companies full of activists. Center is a good place to be, radicalism doesn’t help anyone.

One way pagers are also privacy friendly - base stations are not aware of your location.

Yes, I am fond of HIPAA too. One project I worked on was physical infrastructure for a healthcare company. One cool thing I remember is that the phone lines within the building had to be in armored cable, so they couldn’t be tapped without

Most stadiums implement cellular via DAS antennas and equipment local to the location. If the venue/site hasn’t planned for full capacity then this is no surprise. On another note stadium RF engineering is really complex and a fascinat

Durham is very nice but prices have skyrocketed since around 2015. Apartments downtown went from 1500 to 3000 monthly, for example.

Nordstrom is a great store, I shop there and used TrunkClub quite a bit. My local Nordstrom even has a bar, so if I am shopping with someone I can grab a cocktail and relax instead of counting down the seconds.

Good! Slack product managers are arrogant and the product is garbage. Lots of dark patterns.

As a former resident of NYC there is always an angle for them to scam you. Tourist or not. Get loud and crazy and suddenly the driver found change, accepts CCs, etc.

I had a similar experience in school, it still impacts me today. I don’t recognize authority for authority’s sake, only what I feel is reasonable and just. It’s liberating.

I personally have reduced my participation due to said echo chamber. If you want to have comments voted there is a pretty easy formula to follow.

That’s why I come to the comments first for these posts. I believe the forum is working as designed.

Discussing politics at work is a huge liability. With the recent surge of outrage culture I’m not willing to put my job on the line to prove a point. I engage in discussion, but only online and anonymously.

I never had a problem (that I know of) with fakes on Amazon. I did cancel my prime membership and switched to Walmart. I feel like prices went up and quality went down. I wish I could move stuff away at work, we spend millions each month on

Silly question - what can you really do with liquid nitrogen at home? I can think of cooking applications but I’m pressed to think of something else.

If I’ve got the work scratch on my own time I turn to learning. It can benefit me long term, and perhaps score me some cred at work in the short term.

I’m really unhappy with Chromes roadmap as of late. Particularly their effort to kill the URL. At one point Chrome was the gold standard and I think it’s gotten to their head.

Aren’t public EBS snapshots the underlying mechanism for public AMIs? I’ve ran into complex permissions in a golden image deploy model where the same AMI is used across multiple accounts. There needs to be controls like S3 where you can exp

I share the same sentiment. I’ve got a terrible eye for design and I don’t have the slightest idea about fonts. Articles like this remind me of my gaps and I’d love to pick up some knowledge.

Yes, according to my statement this is the actual amount paid by insurance. Most of it ($4500) was for my two prescriptions. The rest was for 2x ER visits (first doc denied me), and one round of labs.

I was a happy Sonic subscriber for a few years until I moved. Regardless of the company you use I’m really pleased to hear it’s NOT Comcast/Xfinity/TWC/etc. I’ve got a chip on my shoulder, and fuck them.

I had a scare and took PeP this year. I had to ER shop. First one denied me coverage and made assumptions. I ended up getting care at a cost of ~$6000 to my insurance. I paid $270. I have great healthcare but this is obscene. I don’t want t

Fargate is nice but expensive. Run through the numbers for your app. I’m moving away from ECS and going to EKS. The rationale is k8s has a significantly larger user base and I will benefit from that.

At my scale two DBAs + MySQL on EC2 is cheaper than Aurora. I believe other companies will come to the same conclusion in time.
