I think this is completely wrong -- look at UAC on Windows, that works very well. Even if the machine is completely single-user, you don't want any program you run to be able to modify system files, etc. It is useful to manually grant

S&P return since 2000 was 2.2% on average, 0.05% (!!) inflation-adjusted. Last decade was 5.3%, or 3.2% inflation adjusted.

Inflation and base interest rates are not the same thing, though they usually affect each other. If inflation is higher than the base rate, then people tend to spend more as money is losing the purchasing power. The problem is that inflatio

I don't know. Namespaces can be complex, yes -- if you use them. You are not obliged to. Also, XML schemas and XSLT are immensely useful (the lack of schemas is one of the most annoying issues with JSON).

Does this mean that running high-risk project inside Google started to damage the reputation of Google? Many (most) of the moonshot projects failed (which is normal), and I have the feeling that these events had a somewhat bad fallout on th

Up to this day, it's not really possible to a laptop with Linux to drive a 4K external display without too much inconvenience. Even Broadwell has problems with driving 4K with SST @ 60 Hz, so Optimus is useful.

Yes, it's larger than a C or Go process. Does it usually matter? No. The whole Netflix is based on the JVM and Java. They are enormously big, they have high CPU and I/O requirements in many cases, and yet, they manage well on Java

It's basically impossible to upload this data in 6 months. 100 PB = 102400 TB = 104857600 GB = 107374182400 MB. You have 365/2 * 24 * 3600 seconds in 6 months, that's 15768000 seconds. So you need to upload ~7 GB/sec, th

Some stuff to remember: - thinness does not matter that much. If you want your stuff to look cool, then it does, but for portability it doesn't. - thinness affects cooling. You don't want your battery get ruined, your CPU throttle
