Kafka is not a task queue. Well, it is, but it's also an extremely scalable distributed schemaless persistent data store; probably that trait differentiates it from other fast commit logs.

Don't buy a cheap TV for programming if you're not constrained by money. You can get 40" monitors for a bit more, and you won't need to fight the firmware and also you can get a better panel. Also, PWM is worse if you&#x

Those are people who are vocal about their choices. Based on what you're reading here, the average HNer uses Fastmail, has no Facebook account, writes code in Rust, exercises a lot, wants a self-driving car and works at or owns a start

How's ChromeOS better than Windows? It's proprietary, and on the top of that, it directly relies on an external service. Google spends a lot on lobbying, by the way, afaik more than what Microsoft is spending.

I don't think you're right. Linux containers will keep running inside VMs (How else could they run? WSL isn't there yet and probably never will be.)

It is running as a Hyper-V VM. HV containers don't share the kernel with the host if they're running Linux; they are actual lightweight VMs.

This is a major update as now the Docker daemon runs as a Windows process, not as a Linux process. One VM/container is also a huge change. Before this, you had to manage a single VM that runs all the containers, allocate memory and CPU

What are we doing wrong? We use Prometheus for many things, for example I'd like to know how specific latencies have changed over time. Why should I store these numbers somewhere else?

Downtime would be acceptable I think, especially because we could just launch a separate instance of Prom while the main one is being migrated.

That's probably because you've used Confluence. If you used something else, then that'd have been the huge hole. Confluence is a very good wiki. There's no wiki that creates good structures for you automagically.

I know it's universally hated here on HN, but Samsung. Their top-end models just work; they have some UI bloat but some of that is also useful. They look good, are generally well-supported, good cameras, great screens, good battery. (T

Not unspeakable at all. We're talking about a (few) hundred man-years, tops (probably less than that, depending on how strict you are). Ubuntu devs have mentioned in the past that Mir could have been finished with an extra $1M (which i

No proper hidpi support. Gnome3 doesn't support fractional scaling, so if you need smtg like 125% scaling, then you're out of luck. (Example: 4k 32" displays need this.)

But the thing is that as a developer, it doesn't matter what you start with - you have both and you're using compose files, etc. So Docker is trying to make the orchestrator less relevant now, and says that 'don't worry
