The major difference between this situation and any efforts of Gandhi or the civil rights movement is one of leadership. An entire country would (and did) follow Gandhi. I don't think there is a single person in the US whom everyone would f

Keep in mind that in 2002, Russia seemed to be hand-in-hand with India when it came to outsourcing software dev. It might be a weak bet now, but was stronger when it was made. Wrong, but still stronger.

I work both sides of the coin. I have a degree in fine Arts, but have been a software guy for many years. I put in an initial design when I make a HTML mock-up. I tweak it until I think it is good, then start to code the actual functions. A

I wrote a similar tool in 2001, and had a tough time with it. My findings at the time were that there were 2 crowds: One who wanted an entire template laid out for them, and another that was willing to design everything from scratch. For th

When I went to law school, orentation consisted of 3 days of being repeatedly told: 1) Your degree will not get you the salaries you expect. You will be paying these loans off forever. 2) Most law school grads hate being lawyers 3) There is

"This got built and is in daily use." That gives me another idea! A web monitoring tool that will hit all your projects on a daily basis, solely so you can make this claim about anything you have ever written!

I think this is changing. Corporations are not the blind, mindless creatures that people seem to think. They do see their own problems, and do want to change them. They are starting to recognize the needs and desires of a younger workforce,

Automated password resets are a solved problem. Either email a new pw or reset link to a known address, or authenticate with "secret questions". Both have their problems, but no small company should waste support time when established techn

You should never be the lowest paid. Executives are paid not for the actual tasks they do, but for the fact that all responsibility and accountability is on their shoulders.

You assume that super smart people have money as their primary goal in life. I have found this to be far from true. The truly brilliant people I know follow their passions, and usually make just enough money to do so, spending the rest of t

I'm honestly surprised at the downvotes here. Even including people who went back to download older comments on totally different threads. Interesitng. In any case, I simply stated the pattern. Everyone else added a value judgment into it,

This is following the pattern of many medical advances I have seen in my lifetime: Step 1) Alternative medicine quacks say that they can do something 'impossible', like regenerate teeth. Step 2) Doctors say that claim is flat out impossible

That is true, but that is exactly my point. If you choose to use a product like Wordpress, then you should also accept the maintenance that goes with that choice, tedious and annoying though it may be. Installing a product, running a busine

True, for external sites. But for internal sites, storing my framework with my app lets my local web server cache it, instead of forcing users to traverse the network and go outside our firewall to Google's CDN.

Kinda missing the point, IMO - the UI differences are nowhere near as important as the cultural difference. 1 foot = single active user. 10 feet = passive user, often multiple passive users. THAT difference is a much bigger concept to work

Not scary to me -- I believe that advertising should be exactly like this: Inform you of a product, tell you what value it can offer you, then allow you to make an informed choice. Advertising is only evil when it is deceptive.
