A Beautiful Mind covers this issue from a slightly different angle. It's a decent flick. I'm marginally surprised neither it nor Nash was mentioned in the article.

For at least "conventional" blue-chip stocks, if the market fails to represent the present value of all future dividends, discounted back to the present, trading based on that metric should be a dominant strategy, since it is a method of ex

I think core CS needs to be brought back into the picture. This Omega character is posited to be able to determine a Rice property about rational agents. As these agents are presumably Turing-equivalent or BETTER, this supposition contradic

The entity definition files are the data. Higher-order code is code that operates on code. I need a slightly more concrete example from you to get any more concrete here, but I'm imagining that the C# code generator has a set of rules for m

Assuming your post is meant to be sardonic: There is an established school of thought that says that that sort of thing has a high likelihood of impressing women.

IIRC, Melinda was a PM at Microsoft and that's how they met. From http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3428721.stm : "He met his wife in 1987 at a Microsoft press event in Manhattan. She was working for the company and later became one of t

reminder: "hackers" and "gay people" are not disjoint sets, so mentioning a boyfriend doesn't imply femininity (not gay; recently made a public mistake of this nature).

Looks like not just geeks, but young people in general, use Firefox. As hoped, Chrome tends to take market share from IE, not Firefox.

I was a bit surprised that the article took so long to mention that everyone dies eventually. Lots of the rhetoric around this issue (e.g., "saving lives", "sentencing him to death") ignores that everyone is born with a death sentence. (Sor

Raw speed can certainly pose a safety problem! Your vision distance is a constant. Therefore, the faster you are going, the less time you have to react to sudden obstacles (e.g., deer, lane closing, merging vehicle, debris in the roadway, e

Only because alcohol problems were mentioned: I drink one beer at a time (ok, sometimes two), so "5 bottles at home" is "5 nights at home that include a bottle of beer".
