I used atom for years, it was such a nice UX especially compared to vscode. Unfortunately it was slow when I loaded it up with plugins. I moved on to vscode first, hated it, then back to vim, then to neovim, and now finally to helix.

I agree with huge buildings causing a stress response and modern architecture being generally ugly. The nicest looking places are smaller in scope with buildings around 4-5 stories, densely packed together which also makes them walkable. Lo

I actually like Option 3 the best even more than sass syntax. It's very explicit whereas sass is implicit and harder to understand at a glance when nesting happens, especially when you throw in an & and have styles above and below

Feels good to ask people what they're grateful for, taking a moment to think and be a little more introspective is nice.

My wife doesn’t drink, very few of my friends drink, so it was easy for me to quit day to day. When I find myself in a situation where everyone is drinking, like at a meet up or a conference or something, it’s still hard to say no though. F

I was looking for logfmt mentioned in the article and couldn't find it. Also stripe's canonical log lines[1] solve this problem nicely 1: https://stripe.com/blog/canonical-log-lines

I was thinking University Ave too. Agree though, there is no city center as far I can tell

I just ran into this, I thought it would be nice to use a number input for relatively large numbers in a form, but then a user asked for a thousands separator. I ditched the number input.

Wow this is just what I was looking for, a proxy written in a memory safe language like rust with no GC as an alternative to nginx. Looking forward to the open source version!

I love this, GPG has always been really foreign to me. I still got the hang of it to verify my commits on github.

Hard agree here, buildings anywhere between 4-12 stories are fine. I don't consider buildings < 13 stories high rises, I consider those mid rises.

LA has a traffic nightmare because most of the "city" is single family housing.

You wouldn't build timber high rises. You would only build buildings ~4 stories tall.

The dailies idea is super interesting, it would be nice to get your team on board but you can do this individually without permission. Reading the previous day’s code won’t even take that long. Also yes, javascript has had a long and indust

I switched to stainless steel, it is more to maintain, but it's not horrible. I also use a ceramic pan on very low temperatures to cook really stick stuff like scrambled eggs.

So true. I ran into this problem when streaming on twitch. After I switched from a webcam to a sony a7r2, I never looked back. I even use it for zoom calls too, because why not?

I loved and used atom for years, despite the performance. It was just such a nice editing experience. Also never got on the vscode train and opted for neovim instead (been using vim and bindings since 2012)

I’ve never thought about this, that’s interesting, would escaping or coercing params help with this?

I wrote janetdocs with joy and it's been running for quite a while on a pretty small VPS. htop shows RES memory usage as ~16MB and SHR as ~6MB, so it's anecdotal, but there's at least one data point.

Hey thanks for the shoutout! JanetDocs turned out ok in the end, it's been running on janet for years at this point, no hiccups to speak of really. (Please be nice to the server)

The reduction in complexity from using sqlite + litestream as a server side database is great to see!

The tech stack behind this is pretty novel, janet, htmx, and per user sqlite files, check the FAQ for more details, it’s pretty interesting
