Email as the interface is really interesting to me. Users don't necessarily need a username/password combo. They don't need to learn a new workflow. They don't need to install any new tools. Company IT depts take care of making sure people

I agree about the motivation aspect - should I write a glowing review of a book that I didn't like to generate more clicks? Even if I write honestly, will it be perceived as disingenuous because of affiliate links? I turned on the affiliate

If anyone is interested in turning on Amazon Affiliates for a technical blog, I collected some data over the past few months. I put a single affiliate link on my technical book reviews (sample: http://swanson.github.com/writeup/2012/10/29/

Hah! Where are the Linux neckbeards now? Another day, another Linux vulnerability it seems like. Honestly, how much longer are we going to build on this house of shaky cards? Did they really think that letting a race condition happen on PTR

A killer feature of Google Now that was actually helpful (no, baseball scores don't count) is when it detects you are traveling. I had a receipt from EventBrite in my Gmail for a conference in Chicago. The day I drove up there, Google Now

Sure, my use-case is that I have a few toy side-project apps. Serious enough that I'll drop $15 for a .com domain and could part with $5 for a nice favicon, but not enough that I really care enough to spend $50 (since they don't make revenu

For me, it would have to be less than the price of the domain - which is typically ~$12-15 dollars. Keeping it a single-digit dollar amount makes it seem like a small price, mentally. I don't know why, but that's just my gut reaction :)

Sure - it uses the TraktTv API ( http://trakt.tv/api-docs ) which I believe is based on the TheTVDB. I picked that one because it had JSON (TheTVDB uses XML and you have to request a key). I run a cron job that polls the API once a day to c

I'd pay $5 a pop for a custom favicon - I give you an image, you pixelart it. Not the crappy png-to-ico converters, but an actual person that knows what they are doing. Maybe even $9 if you let me pick from 3 options. My current approach is

It is somewhat annoying when a link's "natural title" is not good and the submitter improves it - only to have it reverted. It is somewhat annoying when a link has a misleading "natural title" but is not changed. In short, I like editing wh

I'm a big fan of Personal MBA - there are short, digestible chunks about the general business topics, with curated references if you want to dig deeper. Great format IMO Thanks Josh!
