While there are certainly wanton abuses of civil forfeiture statutes, linked to even in this comment thread, applying them here is a no-brainer. Silk Road was very clearly a marketplace for illegal drugs, and the brokerage fee that DPR coll

I thought the same thing. However, if he is found not guilty, then the presumption is that he was not involved and therefore would not be the "rightful owner" of the seized property anyway.

This is unequivocally accurate. I own three investment properties plus my own home. Each one is profitable, including the house that I live in. It seems to me that the majority of this argument is that rents will not increase. That is a fal

The case, in my experience, is nigh on indestructible. I have dropped it from the top of a hundred foot ice climb, thumped it in 10 foot Indonesian surf, and kicked it around in my bag more times than I can count. It is extremely durable. T

Easy choice for me. $10M is my all time, f-you money retirement number. Invested conservatively, you get an annual income in the hundreds of thousands and no need to ever do anything work-related again. I could carve out a pretty bitchin ex

No doubt. This is absolutely spot-on. The other problem that exists in the US is that the "family doctor" has an incentive to pack his schedule full of as many people as he can to collect as much money as possible. If someone come

The stigma is absolutely the biggest problem with the treatment of mental illness. It would be as if you went to someone with cancer and said, "Well, if you really wanted to, you could just shrink that tumor right now. You just don

As someone whose sister just died of a heroin overdose, I hope that we will get to the point that all drugs are legal. My sister died alone in a locked bedroom because of the shame and stigma associated with her addiction and related mental

It is not. Tax evasion is an actual crime. The IRS using public signals from social media to determine if somebody is cheating on their taxes is not the same as the NSA tracking your GPS location via your cell phone at all times.
