I don't understand why it's presented as such a mystery? The average color obviously exists, and if I had guessed it would be a reddish/yellowish gray (due to the ubiquity of incandescent lighting, the non-UV-reflecting prope

How is this overhype? If anything I feel it's a pretty mundane system they're describing - some sentence parsing along with various database lookups. They seem to stear pretty clear of AGI hardness.

Well surely the entire bicycle frame could be used as an antenna? Then the electronics could fit deep inside the frame, which would make it quite difficult to disable. A problem would be how to power the device though.

Nice, I especially appreciate the "cheat answer" to the Gardner Puzzle at the bottom of the page. I have found that kind of meta-reasoning about questions quite useful, on exams and in games like Trivial Pursuit, for example.

I think the point is that typical bro-behavior is anti-diversity, which I think is true, what with phrases like "that's gay!" etc etc.

> It is very selfish to bring children into the world [...] Would you say there are any unselfish reasons for having kids? I believe poor and rich folks do it for the same reasons, although the circumstances are different.

It seems their goal is to make a full-fledged DAW in the browser, but they are not there yet (and far from it from what I can tell). How they would be able to fund all that for $2k is beyond me. That said, it's a really clever idea to

Particularly the "12.5% for the top 1%" is ridiculous and obviously too low for any modern, capital-intensive, non-socialist society. The FT should know this from their Economics 101, but it seems their main objective here was to

JAK is actually misleading in their marketing, in reality you pay a "loan fee" which corresponds to 3-4.5%/year, which goes to salaries etc. The only real advantage to a "normal" bank is that this rate isn't (d

It's probably hard to tell in most specific cases, but it can be argued that some inventions were just ready to happen (e.g. the telephone and it's race to the patent office) while others may have taken decades longer if the right

You can try it yourself, just open firebug/Chrome Developer Tools and edit the body CSS. Don't rely on others to do for you what you can just as easily do yourself.

The author makes some valid points, but he seems indifferent to the most important question: why program computers at all? He doesn't seem to enjoy it much (although that may be more of a sarcastic tone). I think we need more devs who

While I appreciate the effort, I think this primer is lacking what most other shader tutorials also lack: any information on how to actually do something useful. Shaders are used because they are faster than the cpu. So why isn't every

Good post, I just have a little problem with one advice: the "keep at it until you finish it" part. A lot of times, I set my mind to finishing something before goind home. It often ends up with me scratching my head until midnight
