Indeed, I think that one and The Thirteenth Floor are much better explorations of virtual (simulated) reality than, say, the superficial zen & mainstream action of The Matrix.

Nice! WRT to the icon, you should add stereoscopic imaging (red/green style) to geek out even further!

I don't see how transmitting the power 10 inches would make charging any easier. The MIT spin-off WiTricity has been working on a better(?) solution since 2007, they have been consistently overpromising and underdelivering, but recentl

As a Swede I'm not sure there's any base for this claim, other than that we now have racist politicians who make populist statements like this one without shame, referring to cherry picked data at best. Generally, if you're g

The linked article was published last year, although the entire article body is copied from a 1996 NYT article titled "The Artificial Womb Is Born". Case closed...

I was most surprised that they don't include disclosure of this relationship when mentioning Amazon in the article. I thought that was comme-il-faut of serious journalism.

I think the point is rather: even if you're doing the startup thing and devoting your whole life to a project for a few years - even then you should take time off (and not feel guilty).

That gives me an idea: messaging apps shouldn't use the default OS keyboard, but write their own. In that case, NSA would need to target that messaging app specifically.

Very nice, but is this practical for games? What about collision detection, AI players etc? Or would you use it mainly for backgrounds, skies and such?

Very well written, and I applaud the effort. But personally I don't care for the "magical" aura that writers tend to give ANNs - to me, they are simply (non-linear) function approximators that have a nice fitting algorithm. T

Looks really nice, but I don't see why this isn't just a mobile web page? What's the advantage of having a native app in this case?

Well to be fair, the camera exists, you just can't buy it yet. But perhaps it would be good to have some way of differentiating headlines about buyable products from prototypes/research projects etc.

It disgusts me how much talent is wasted on nonsense like this. Like Haim is alluding to in the documentary, imagine if all these smart people focused on real problems instead. If this isn't a good argument for a transaction tax, I don

Cool, but wouldn't it be better/easier to have a tool where you actually draw a depth map by hand but the tool shows you illumination from various directions in real time? At least for the pixel art case. I'm not an artist bu

Interesting, but doesn't it scale kind of badly? Imagine if thousands of devs were using the service, then it would get really competitive to get any of these leads, thus lowering the value of the leads for the devs.

I don't see any contradiction here? Both systems are opaque and vulnerable, and both may need government regulation. Some people would have it that the repeal of Glass-Steagall is what indirectly lead to the '07 crisis.
