Yahoo used to have a decent restaurants API. I assume that's dead now.

"Repetitio est mater studiorum" - repetition is the mother of learning. My creative writing professor, of all people, used to repeat this three times before every class. He was my favorite teacher at any level.

I think life is extremely rare too. But 200 sextillion is a big number.

Yeah this. I clicked on this hoping it would be about small companies or individuals who make cool, useful tech that might turn a profit but doesn't have the potential or ambition to scale into a unicorn. We need a movement for that st

I think it would be orders of magnitude more astounding if aliens didn't exist than if they did, just given the sheer odds of life only happening once in the observable universe. That's all I'm saying.

I can't know what? That there are ~200 sextillion stars in the known universe? I'm not saying I know there's life out there, just that it would be pretty amazing if something only happened once in 200 sextillion opportunities

2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe, each with 100s of billions of stars on average. How weird would it be if life only arose once out of all those chances?

No no no. We must now have floating headers that don't give any indication they belong to the columns below them, much less that you can click them to sort the columns. 95% of possible actions must only appear when hovered over. Button

Yeah one of the major problems seems to be CrowdStrike's assumptions that channel files are benign. Which isn't true if there's a bug in your code that only gets triggered by the right virus definition. I don't know how

Not wanting immigration laws enforced is exactly what I'm talking about with nudge-nudge wink-wink. An unenforced law isn't really a law. Also you're crazy if you think most Republicans in Congress actually want immigration l

Does nudge-nudge wink-wink imply official policy to you? How about undocumented immigrants openly hanging outside of Home Depot waiting for work, while everyone looks the other way because contractors rely on them? That feels like unofficia

It's because the US has historically promulgated a nudge-nudge wink-wink attitude that could be summed up as "You can't come here legally, but if you get through our defenses, there will be plenty of work waiting for you.&quo

I once worked on some software that generated PDFs of lab reports for drug companies monitoring clinical trials. These reports had been tested, but not exhaustively. We got a new requirement to give doctors access to print them on demand. B

I imagine a scenario where upholding the AI bot's decision is one click of a button for a human. But going against the bot's decision requires filling out an onerous form and making an argument as to why the bot is wrong. And oh y
