- Zoom does not support self-hosting - Self-hosting Jitsi is not the optimal use case for everyone. People are free to choose between Jami and Jitsi, and it’s great to be able to have different options based upon your use case.

In comparison to Zoom and Jitsi: Jami’s major advantages are that it’s end-to-end encrypted and completely peer-to-peer, requiring no server in-between. The major disadvantage is that it doesn’t support calls from the browser. See also: ht

This isn’t 2005. The only websites that use the “Norton security seal” and the “5-star Trustpilot rating” are scam websites. The “guaranteed authenticity” seal makes things worse. I agree that users shouldn’t be forced to sign up to browse

Any filtering system can be circumvented. DNS filtering is just one measure to prevent accidental exposure to unwanted content.

It’s not a good idea to trust a single large organization with your data, even if they make claims to privacy. It’s even worse to let them control what get censored and what gets through. If you care about privacy, I recommend running your

I can’t tell if you’re joking. If this resolver was real, I would rather use a resolver which promises transparency reports and no-logging, and hope it doesn’t fall into the hands of the NSA. Using a resolver by the NSA would guarantee

Good. User-agent strings are a mess. Here is an example of a user-agent string. Can you tell what browser this is? Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/0.2.149.27 Safar

Firefox preview is only on android. iOS doesn’t support videoconferencing in the browser - you have to download the app.

Zoom also recommends Chrome [1]. As other users said, the issue is probably with Firefox’s simulcast, not Jitsi. [1] https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/214629443-Zoom-Web...

Jitsi meet is not end-to-end encrypted [1]. Rather, it is encrypted with TLS between the client and the server, which doesn’t provide the same security/privacy benefit at all. The website says it’s “fully encrypted,” which I think is

Why is there no major Firefox (Gecko) based browsers? Microsoft, Opera, Brave, etc. have all gone Chromium.

Right, but instead of defeatism, people ought to start self-hosting sooner rather than later.

- Writing to the clipboard is not the same as reading it. - Apps can and should let the user paste it themselves. (Examples #1 and #3 offer only slight convenience at the cost of user privacy and security.)

IIRC Apple syncs (or can sync) your clipboard data to the cloud, which is an issue if you’re copying passwords.

Ok, they own a lot of BAT, and have a strong influence on how it’s spent. They created BAT. This is the premise of the parent article.

I suppose it’s less about isolation than about control. Phone apps are even more difficult to sniff.

I suppose that’s the problem, then. Would another browser use BAT? No, because Brave already owns the majority of the Daddy-O dollars.
