Easy. It’s not code. NYT regularly creates interactive stories and those creative developers have no idea how to deal with assets. I deal with that category often and our little projects reach half a gig unless I catch it in time. No PRs, j

We’re talking about possible improvements: - hide the Lost device from the map after a month without unlocking it for them to sell. - gather more information: is it lost? Stolen? What to do next. - the device should be locked and blacklis

I don’t see that issue, really. If you don’t want to develop WP, then use a hosted platform or static builder. If you factor your time spent on tweaking this “simple” proposed setup, you’ll see that $20/month is actually a great deal.

Could you explain the setup? Who would access the SMB and who’d access Dropbox’ web interface? If it’s running on a server with a network-shared folder, I don’t see how that’s an issue for Dropbox. If you were passing around Dropbox credent

People focus too much on DRY and not enough on modularisation. If your functions do everything, DRYing them can be awkward and ineffective. If you stop injecting your business logic into every line and attempt to create "pure" fun

Out of all your examples, only Ghost is self hosted. Not everyone wants to or is able to afford a $20/month provider, especially small businesses outside the US.

They are. Check the Spratly islands. They may not be “certainly” owned by a specific country, but they’re definitely not China’s given the distance.

Apples to oranges. The issue with graffiti is not that there are too many, it’s that they’re illegal. I doubt you’d admire an unrequested graffiti war over every wall and window of your house.

If you look at 2015 node tools you’ll find plenty of such examples. Literally every build tool from that time is dead now, except webpack.

I think you just have to accept that projects are not evergreen. Some popular tools we used 10 years ago are gone for the most part, and it’s no one’s fault.
