I think it is a more than a little weird, as we find that over different scales our ability to predict loses its precision. We attribute this to an unknown something, that is sometimes referred to as "dark matter", but in reality

I very much wish no one had used the terms "dark matter" and "dark energy", as those imply far more knowledge than we have. It implies to those unfamiliar that there is in fact some form of energy or matter that has bee

Yeah, it all depends. I certainly don't want people buzzing me with their drone when I'm out enjoying nature with my kids. As a result, when I take my drone out, I am very certain to be far from others, and not to bug them. By

I competed in this, and found it somewhat fun. It was like an x-prize for computer science. I knew little about this area of research or work. So when I first saw the data, which was simply movie IDs and user IDs with dates and ratings,

If you already own x% of the company it sounds like they are wanting to make installments on the purchase of the company via 're-vesting'. I.e., rather than pay 100% to own your shares, they want to own 100% of your shares, then

I've learned to lean heavily in to my nerdiness. I have just learned to accept it's who I am, and if that means I am not the dude who goes out after work for drinks (for various reasons), then that is the way it is (lots of relat

That is very true. I grew up relatively poor (we were the kids with literal holes in our shoes going to school, free lunch program, etc), and didn't get my first computer till I was 26. I didn't get it till I was 26 not because

Yeah, I totally suffer from this far too much. Intellectually, I understand that much of the success of my peers of which I'm envious, has nothing to do with my abilities, per se, but more to do with luck and personality differences.

What won't be obvious, but at some point will tip over and wreak havoc on the industry, will be AI generated films. You might think of the poor quality deepfakes when I say that, but we are in the baby stages of something far more pow

Given the existence of free very feature rich alternatives, like DaVinci Resolve, why would someone spend so much time building this? Just to have an open source alternative? I don't really get who would want to use this, if there ar

I have worked in the software world for 20 years, and started coding while in grad school studying for my master's in astrophysics. I initially was building websites on the side to make extra money, but then decided to go full time.

My kids get confused when I refer to my 3d printer as a robot. Heck, even the 2d paper printer is a robot. In that respect, I do have some very useful robots. I would very much like a robot that could do household chores though, like la

Yes, exactly. Every robot from these companies I'd seen were underwhelming and nothing I would have spent money on. A robot that could do my laundry I'd pay $2000 for.

Point taken. But still, the imagery of an automobile flying is what I've always thought of when I heard the phrase "flying car". Not a plane that can be driven.

It may not be practical, but in the world of scifi, I think we have lots of artistic attempts to design what such a vehicle might look like. Take most of the "cars" in The Fifth Element. They don't have wings, and are essen

That's a good example of what I mean. I've seen that before as well, and it's more plane like than car, IMHO. Folding the wings just makes it a plane that you can fit into a lane on a street.

The whole "flying car" phrase gets tossed around far too much. Every "flying car" I've seen marketed, is either 1) a small VTOL airplane, or 2) a small airplane that folds up so it can be driven on the street. Mos

I imagine it like being in a boat. There are people in the boat running around drilling holes in the bottom and then there are those trying to cover the holes, the Leak Fixers, but they do this very poorly, and sometimes their efforts crea

This is the one major reason I lost most of my desire to continue grad school (I was studying astrophysics). I chose physics specifically because I wanted to understand the universe. The way I thought of it was that I wanted to lift the h
