This is usually delineated by wisdom vs intelligence. Intelligence is raw horsepower, and wisdom is the ability to make good decisions. In the context of older developers, I don't think you can really assume wisdom has been an outcome

I agree, it seems poor sportsmanship on the part of Codewars. I mean they could have a special leaderboard for those who "hack" the game in one way or another. It seems in the best interest of the software itself, but also of th

I love when CEOs talk about how they set aside dedicated time for this, Jason Fried comes to mind.

I saw him speak at a fireside chat here in Berlin, and was struck by his overall juvenile attitude and idiocy. Given that that was his "shtick" I guess he was just hiding in plain sight. But I'm surprised that his poor judg

The person every kid wanted to be in the 70s was Jimi Hendrix. The person every kid wants to be in 2017 is Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerburg. The zeitgeist has moved on.

I'm really hoping that in the next 5 or 10 years that "clean meat" or meat created from animal cells becomes a viable alternative. This is the future, and with it we will drive costs down and food safety up.

The "Is group chat making you sweat" is using a verb form "continuous aspect" which not all languages have. It's more of a feeling of being in the middle of the situation, where "Does group chat make you sweat

And don't underestimate the cost that comes with a) having to justify your quirky Coffeescript codebase to potential hires and b) not getting the hires you want because they won't work in Coffeescript. This was my main motivation

I'm not buying it either. I think some people are trying to inflate the perceived value of the bootcamps.

Yeah, the senior titles for people with 1 or 1.5 years out of bootcamp don't make any sense at all, and cast doubt on the validity of the data. Come on, we've all worked with smart people that are a year or two in to being a devel

Not to be too contrarian, but I'm a 45 year old developer whose (basically) only code that is currently in production is what I've made in the last year. Code is generally eventually thrown away, whether it's garbage or not.

Yeah, whenever new hires complain about the lack of completeness or correctness of documentation, I'm like: that's a great place for you to start. It also seems to be a great signal of the attitude of the new hire, because the p

I love all of your advice, but I would start straight-away with writing tests. Not only is it low risk, it is the best way to start understanding the code base, and gives you an avenue through which you can start introducing small refactor

In 1981 I'm not sure that it was so obvious that computers would take over the world, definitely not to the general public. For context, I was 10 years old at the time, and was the only kid in my school that owned a computer, a TI-99

I agree that it's a great idea, are there competitors? But just a little feedback on the tagline, the "10x" sounds a bit amateurish, since it's not backed by any data and just sounds like over-hyped marketing speak. &q

Is it feasible to attend the CCC as a non-German with only a basic grasp of the language? I've always had the impression that it was very German-language oriented, but seeing the amount of English in this thread has me reconsidering.
