Yesterday, I watched Emery Berger’s “Python performance matters” Which is you should not bother to write fast Python, just delegate all heavy lifting to optimized C/c++ and the likes. His group has a Python profiler whose main goal is

Had to look them up. Among other stuff, they let you borrow cash using crypto as collateral. That sounds like risky business at this time. They seem to apply a 2x safety margin but that might not be enough.

A great example of positive action was the story of the Oakland Buddha. Intended to discourage littering but in the end cleaned up the entire neighberhood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_Buddha https:/

The title suggests more but if you read the entire post, Vulnerability 2 and 4 are specific to PS4. Not exactly the flagship product anymore.

I believe this refers to decision trees that, at the time were referred to as “Expert systems”, which were considered a type of AI.

I would agree with the author that there are other, more useful examples of recursion. He gave a family tree example but for me ‘list all files on your hard disk’ would be a better example. Tail call recursion is interesting, but that belon

Yeah, my remark was based on the presumption that there would be a viable product without all the lying and cheating. You’re probably right there isn’t.

But then it is total nonsense to call this a “Linux backdoor”. A linux backdoor should mean a planted vulnerability in Linux itself.

I would say firing 25% would be enough assuming you start from the top down. User hostile software usually hostile by design.

Usually for perf issues like this, you and your colleagues also suffer. It is not just the time you lose waiting, but you also drop out of flow/get distracted and your productivity suffers more. The end user gains are just a side benef

The dystopian part is that all of the modern centralized services tend to evolve in spying and manipulating wannabe monopolists.

This is a good point. The fact that DALL-E will try to render something, no matter how meaningless the input, is a trait it has in common with many neural networks. If you want to use them for actual work, they should be able to fail rather

I expect this effect is not ignored. But please note that heavy stars do not burn in billions of years but in millions. Not seeing them locally suggests that we have slower starformation, not that we had more of them (heavy stars) billions

There’s an interesting effect to consider: in the current situation, centrist politicians can use their role as tie-breaker to get the best result for the state they represent. Assuming RCV benefits centrist candidates, a state can improve

It would be useful, in so many ways, when there would be a way to prove that you are a unique human being without revealing too much of your identity. An intermediary NGO could provide that, if they in turn integrate with national identity

The press release points to the paper’s abstract. From that, it appears that it is specific to PET plastic. It can de-polymerase PET for later synthesis in new PET products. PET is already being recycled, the issue there is that recycled PE

I heavily advise AGAINST not using CI. If properly applied it solves .gitignore mistakes and many more, made by those infamous junior devs. On second thought, not just juniors. Oh well.

At least one country that I heard of (Kazachstan) requires everyone to install a cert issued by the gouvernement that enables them to do this kind of MITM spying on users. That could be the argument against allowing user-installed certs.

I think the argument is a bit pointless: most likely somebody’s bonus or career prospects depend on getting a high opt-in results. Even worse, often the banner is outsourced to parties like onetrust or quantcast. In that case, the site will
