Humans are irrational. And it’s hard not to laugh at wind and solar. But you are right. I would downvote if I was wrong and laughed at.

He’s downvoted because he’s bringing on-the-ground facts to a political discussion about solar and wind.

Seems like nuclear heat and electricity can substitute for hydrocarbons. Abundant heat and power within the atom to compensate for lower efficiency.

I am concerned now because covering the world in solar panels and wind turbines is unsustainable. Each siting location by definition is worse than the one before. The vast land area required will cause tremendous societal and environmental

I’m referring to energy density. Because civilization requires ever-increasing amounts of energy to grow and prosper. Solar, even concentrated desert solar, is no good at all. Wind is a distant derivative and much, much worse. Hydrocarbons

Wind is a second-order force. It’s even worse than solar - hard to believe!

Climate change is already solved with nuclear power. You just don’t know it yet.

He shows wind energy has horrifically low energy density. He also shows the immense infrastructure required for one wind turbine. A comparison with nuclear is left as an exercise for the viewer. Perhaps it is made explicit in the full video

Why build Gen 3 plants when they are on the cusp of commercializing Gen 4?

Industry, the backbone of modern civilization, requires cheap unlimited power 24/7. Renewables in Europe are killing growth and driving jobs overseas.

Fake solutions for an imagined problem. The unused uranium from a reactor fits neatly into a few parking stalls. Security, transport, and storage of this valuable resource are already solved. Let’s put this material to use!

This story omits the most important information. What happens to plant and animal life if we raise the river temperature? And what happens if we instead burn more coal in Germany to compensate?

A valid explanation of the trade-offs between safety and usability. But it seems like HN doesn’t like guns or gun analogies. Too bad.

I am surprised at the skepticism in this thread from tech people. Dozens of startups recognize the limitless opportunity and inevitability of nuclear power. We’ve already seen two successful Green New Deals - France in the ‘70s and Sweden i

I skimmed the article and didn’t see a single mention of nuclear. The article can be safely ignored - nuclear is the only feasible solution regardless of your position on global warming.

So much waste. We’ve built a mountain of bullshit while the world burns. California and Germany spent 680 BILLION dollars on renewables. If they’d spent that much on nuclear power instead, they’d have unlimited carbon-free green energy TODA
