I don't even get how people can use VMware. I've tried it on my macbook and it's unbearably slow. I bought a cheap PC off of craigslist because VMware was too slow to use. 4 gigs of ram and still lagged like all hell.

I like how the cardflick guy instantly criticizes a YC company as sucking. Nice.

Almost starting to feel bad for Groupon - what else could possibly go wrong? The only thing that seems left is insolvency.

I hope this doesn't turn into a Grouponesque company and get slammed for cashing out while not being profitable.

Of course you use a lawyer, but you should understand it as well.

Brad Feld's blog should be the first thing you read if you get a term sheet (or even better - if you start trying to raise $). He helps explain these things in plain english and what they look like in lawyer terms as well.

I think (and I may be wrong) - he gets to write off the donation now (probably amortized) to help his tax basis even though the $ doesn't go anywhere until he's gone...

It's probably intimidating to ask someone like Jim Breyer or Mike Moritz or John Doerr. I imagine that would be a conversation I'd be nervous to have :-).

Company #500 did $4bn+ in rev & $250mm+ in profit last year - think about that compared to 37signals (no offense to them).

Ditto - I opted out a few months ago and basically got a hand job - a few weeks ago it was nothing, quick wave of the wand.

Revenue - if their post is around $85 they need to get to $500mm+ to be a home run the VCs want. That will require a HUGE amount of revenue, most likely $100+.
