Within 3 minutes of reading this, I canceled my Amazon Prime account. The fact they require sideloading APKs for streaming video on Android devices, and even then only support SD quality was annoying. This just tells me they have no intenti

I have deep appreciation for pharmaceutical research, but it's folly to imagine any of it's ultimately driven by anything but profits. I disagree with you. I remain convinced that research is driven by the curious geeks with a

I'd like to know how they plan on dealing with subkeys -- my Keybase key is an ed25519 key kept offline, with a set of RSA subkeys generated directly on a Yubikey. This lets me use my key on an Android device (via Open Keychain), or PC

Welcome to the wonderful world of network peering. I suspect Google is very transmit heavy on bandwidth usage. Peering agreements tend to sweeten as your rx/tx ratio approaches 1, so increasing rx on the network makes it easier to esta

I've seen a lot of novice sysadmins do silly things like rely on sudo's command restrictions, expecting this to actually contain a user. For those sysadmins, yeah, it's unexpected.

Trip requests only come in when the driver has marked themselves as available. Uber will often offer a guaranteed minimum for a given night if you mark yourself as available. The cut-off is to remove folks from the pool who sit at home decl

I'm a huge fan of the Lenovo X1 Carbon. Despite their stupid moves regarding preloaded software, it's tough to beat a Thinkpad for Linux support. Even better than the Linux support though is their warranty support. For under $100

This is rather silly. The CrunchBang maintainer's reasons for discontinuing the distro are spot on. It's absurd to fork the entire distro, adding a delay on package updates from the upstream distro just for the sake of defining a

That's my (rather depressing) understanding. I still dream of a non-profit or municipal cable plant, serviced by multiple ISPs. The last mile is a natural monopoly, and we need to stop pretending otherwise.

This. I live in a relatively small city, so I frequently see 3-4 different firms ping me on the same job. I'm the kind of person who feels guilty not sending a frendly no thanks. Usually by the 3rd or 4th recruiter on a gig, I'm a
