No, but I don't come from a typed language. For me, it was an upgrade, because the beautiful docs have type information for most main modules you'll use.

I am not OP, but I prefer systemd unit myself. I can use stock CentOS/Rocky/RHEL/Fedora, install the database package and be running in no time.

100% this. The demo application I built for my book[0] that sets an entire standalone PostgreSQL server can be understood in a few hours. If your database fits one server, you should consider it. [0] https://gist.github.com/

Self-host for me. You can use a cheap virtual server + attached storage. In my mind, it's not as difficult as people let you believe (until you hit a scaling issue and want horizontal scaling for example). I also teach how to do it in

One reason is that so many packages depend on them. Python and Perl is big in Fedora-based systems, for example. But even for the non-critical software, packaged WP needs PHP, packaged Vagrant needs Ruby etc. As for enterprise Linux, many c

I like this pragmatism and I teach it as well ( https://deploymentfromscratch.com/ ). Just want to say that you can employ systemd socket activation for systemd services, and you can have zero-downtime deployment without load

I used WP for various sites and blogs, and now I am left with one last instance, which I refuse to babysit, and will just turn it off. I had enough.

I think it's still better than GMail which is quick once it loads, but doesn't load for me many times when abroad. And for such a simple app (list last X emails), it's staggering they are not even trying to fix it.

Yes, that's another reason I am sticking with Bash for teaching for my book on deployments. Your Bash will only change if your tools change. If you want to know how things work under the hood, you don't want to go through a rabbit

Somebody posted my post which sums up my experience a while ago[0]. In short: No regret, just make sure you are not building something that can be done twice faster with an existing Ruby library or so. But for a long-term team project, I wo

Not joking. Everything Electron is actually the opposite: ugly. It doesn't blend well at all (maybe macOS Electron is a bit better). Native GTK apps are beautiful, which one you don't like? Only applications that are not on latest
