My trouble with Digital Ocean app platform and "turnkey" templates from VPS providers is that I don't trust them. I want a secured box. Everything rootless. SELinux. SSH hardening. Etc. I am better off on my own and everybody

Based on the feedback, I updated the post with one more approach based on the idea from https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26554476#26556540 . The second approach avoids Rails UJS in favour of Turbo Frame. Of course there

I included a second example with Turbo Frame that hopefully shows how Turbo Frames work.

I included a second example with Turbo Frame, but I am keeping Stimulus since it's what the article is about (and it's in the title). Maybe you can do without it but you have to use some hidden forms or something. I believe Stimul

Nice approach. And yes, Stimulus is great for things like this.

I believe both are used for customer facing applications. However, I am not sure about b2c at scale. You could argue that Hey.com is b2c. In this case, the main advantage is that scaling is stateless, so your application servers just have t

Yes, it doesn't use Turbo, but Stimulus is part of Hotwire as well. And actually I do just send a complete HTML over the wire (even if just with AJAX).

Yep, that's what actually cross my mind first. In the end, I wanted to avoid depending on the model, but it's certainly interesting.

I am heavy on testing as well. I believe that Basecamp guys would just use the Rails system tests. Therefore there is nothing unique about using Stimulus.

I was thinking of that, but I think the point is that you do any transformation in Ruby. I focused on how to do that. Thanks for the feedback.

You are right, but the point is that you can do a lot of transformations in Ruby. The demo doesn't do it justice, you can be converting the content to Markdown for example. As for the Stimulus part, the idea is to use Stimulus for ever

Please enlighten me what would be your title for the post? The idea is making a reusable Stimulus 2 controller.

Yes, I was only focusing on Stimulus 2, but someone else posted here how to change the example to use a frame.

Perfect. I will try it, and perhaps update the post with this approach as well. Thank you. I haven't done anything with Turbo yet, although it's my next step. I first just tried to refresh my Stimulus knowledge with the 2.x change

I just added it. The preview text will become bold, but the idea is that you can send any kind of HTML to inject.

It does! Stimulus 2 is Hotwire too[0]. Turbo seemed more connected with existing models, and so I chose a Stimulus controller instead. But maybe I just don't know Turbo as much yet. [0] https://stimulus.hotwire.dev/

So finally we got 1.0! I am super happy about the leading dots on multi-line method chains which I also voted for. It was a long time in the making, but it gave the project time to consider all the little nuances. Great work!

I started with gitbook for deploymentfromscratch.com but run into various issues and now adopted a similar approach to OP by using Pandoc with Markdown and some Latex here and there (like some custom boxes). I really wish there is something

This is a good idea how to do git in a team. For solo use, you can actually give yourself a little bit more slack.

Yep. I agree. Docker has its place, but nothing wrong with keeping everything one layer short. It's how I run my side-projects. Just a small Bash setup.sh script and you are good to go. Docker solves the annoyance of system dependencie

As a formal Red Hat packager, I am quite happy to see this change. Before I could not use RHEL to run my side project, but now I can! Also 16 is actually not a small number, people with Kubernetes orchestration sometimes forget how much you

I will start with CentOS Stream, but might actually switch to RHEL later. I don't really have a good rationale hah, but I was working for Red Hat and it could be cool to finally run my side project on RHEL.

Ok, I apologize, I wasn't sure about containers. It seems you don't count containers per se, but they have to run a base RHEL system.

I wish OpenSUSE has more love, but it's important to realize some differences are still there. Namely: 1, OpenSUSE Leap cannot do full version upgrades 2, They use AppArmor instead of SELinux 3, Support is shorter than CentOS Stream[0]

I second all of that. For anyone who might be interested in Fedora-family, namely systemd, SELinux, and firewalld bits I am writing a book now about deploying with Fedora and CentOS Stream[0] and I am almost finished. With this announcement

Red Hat sponsors Fedora big time. I was part of the packagers team for Ruby. Next to us were sitting Perl guys (you would never believe how many Perl packages are still there...!) and somewhere else folks doing Python packaging. Source: For
