This seems pretty unlikely with ECC modules. Worst reported error rate for regular RAM was 1 bit per hour per GB (via wikipedia) while other reports claim it'd take a century for that same amount of error. Regardless, this is ever more reas

I agree. I do find it odd that they are changing things in one direction rather than making it optional or spinning off another project. Personally, I look forward to change even now, since computers are far from perfect.

Like others have said, it's more about what the icon represents. A window (maybe a document) or an application. I prefer the application metaphor more than the window metaphor. I've come to like this since I don't always need to see all my

Here's the kicker: there isn't one right way to make it work. Gnome 3 is basically changing to fit with how other recent desktop environments have behaved like OS X. Of course people will bitch but it's no less right or wrong. Maybe just un

I find it amusing that Linus finds what I consider annoying behavior more usable. Changing things up is always painful. I really hate clicking on Terminal and having something new pop up when I might just be trying to bring that application

Uncle or Uncool. The hipster query language.

Right. I'm just saying that if I write and I want to assume a query after that write will include it, I will need W=N since R=1. Which is fine... but tricky. W=2,R=2,N=3 has been my favorite combination but I guess there are always cases to

I assume queries are done over R=1 consistency then? Is W=N the only way to keep writes consistent with these indexes at all times?

This hardly starts to address the things people dislike about Java. Sure, it's a capable language - the JVM even more so. The thing is, it hasn't kept up with the pace of everything else. The JCP is clearly broken. The best thing for people

With small mirrorless cameras with APS-C sized sensors on the market now, I really don't see this breaking through very well. The compact market is addicted to pixel count anyway... Having said that, the real driver could be quality optics

Who cares? Personally, I think search engines beat DNS at its own game a long time ago. Maybe not for some of us but if you ever watch many others, they search and click (or QRcode scan). The URL bar is currently just some magical text to m

Thanks for the reply. I can agree on the cmd-t thing. I'm not tied to TM but I do like the details it implements and it's usually not slow for me (granted, I can see the problem for some cases). I have been watching Vico pretty closely thou

How does this deserve a down vote? Erlangs beam VM is pretty amazing but it's not without some pretty weird artifacts in the source, many of which I've discovered via Joe's twitter ranting. (EDIT: I guess people don't like unpopular views a

You should see Joe's rants on Erlang too. Not as bad as MRI but there are plenty of things to gripe about in beam.

I meant this to apply in general. Rather than try to correct people we should introduce people into the architectural style and since REST already means something to many, it only seeds confusion.

I guess I should clarify my statement. The article is right on the dot. The point here is that arguments like this really need a new label. That's all I'll say.

I've personally given up trying to save the term REST. It was hijacked and will never recover completely at this point. What I've been looking for is a good alternative name. Sometimes I'll write out representational state transfer which is

I have to say I didn't enjoy it. The pops on the side are pointless and annoying and the ad placement on the side just helps show how poor the flow of the page is setup. The next arrow on the side feels like it was just tacked on like a sti

Kind of a odd example just to use map/reduce where each works just fine: result = Hash.new(0) Dir['test?.txt'].each do |file| File.read(file).split(' ').each {|word| result[word.downcase.tr('.,\'', '')] += 1} end

Does the lack of websockets in most users browsers also cripple the web? Node's plenty good at HTTP. In fact it's excellent at HTTP. In any case, they are pretty clear about what it will take to get them to add it.
