To me the main argument was that the algorithms don't scale, and not even SSDs can help to alleviate that. This is true since you are always bound to the worst time. By spreading the load as described, you aren't anymore, so the problem whi

It is possible to fix the max latency problem. If you have K distinct queries, just make sure that each such query is answered by N servers. If you do this you go from worst latency amongst all servers to worst latency amongst all N-tuples.

Its really great to see that someone is stepping into the public eye and disclosing just how poor protection an average PC provides. Bringing attention to this problem could really improve privacy for your average Joe.

I was talking about REST websites, A.K.A web 1.0 websites. What do I mean? Well, a 1.0 website generally follows REST. REST means representational state transfer, which means that each application state should have a representation on the s

Where did AJAX apps go? If you ask me these are thick clients. The funny thing is that HTTP explicitly omitted AJAX in order to acheive linkability and thin clients. With AJAX linkability got thrown out the window and the clients just keep

Thanks for sharing. I'm having the same struggle and can really relate. I feel very lonely as a consultant trying to show a whole project how to be pragmatic and not only care about making better hashtables, but to actually care about the c

Dear programmer, when your boss says 'can you spare 10 minutes for me' he probably means 'can you help me take care of this exceptional situation'. The bug was probably severe and the boss wanted a dev to confirm that it was live before ta

I actually tried to point out that configurability _is_ very possible with such an API. Your complexity argument does not hold. If I can control something with a C API, why not with a file API? Take atomicity as an example. C has no inheren

This is awesome. The current system doesn't work so well since menu items don't fit well into separate categories. In fact, nothing does. One example is the quite arbitrary division into 'File, Edit, View etc'. A discussion I hear quite oft

Thanks for this post. I agree wholeheartedly. A lot more effort has to be put into the 'learning your process' part. The problem is that this requires self-reflective and humble individuals who are willing to work on improving their skills.
