Taken from the article - The old "what goes on tour stays on tour" mantra is still alive and kicking, not just in sport but beyond.

I can't find any further details on this claim. It wouldn't surprise me if it was true but benchmarks really do depend on the details. I want more info. Skipping over the use of "Hello World!" in benchmarks is anyone actually surprised by

As I poorly stated in my initial comment I am aware of this problem. My hope was that by assuming virtually nobody ran the race 10 years ago, which I assume/hope is totally inaccurate, the two errors would cancel each other out. It's a 'ba

In my case it was because I didn't realise it would be difficult to contact me without posting my email address. I like the idea of pre-qualifying people who are willing to put in a bit of effort but some text in the registration form would

It's important to note that this is limited to 100,000 participants. It's going to take a while to reach that number but it's not the entire population either. On the other hand the whole population isn't going to pay to use 23andMe eithe

Yes and no. Although it's possible to play the game successfully without recruiting other people some functionality in the game does require you to recruit other people. On the web at large I suspect this game would get a lot of complaints

I've seen slideshare used for making presentations but certainly not routinely. Dave McClure used slideshare to give his presentation at BarcampScotland2008. If I remember correctly there was just one incident when he moved backwards in th

There might be an opportunity here. The facilities of flexiscale and amazon EC2/EBS are now comparable. A service that sat on top of the two and offered geographical redundancy could be a real winner.

I can easily believe this. I'm at university, I have electronic access to a host of journals. There are some I don't though and for these I'll first speak with friends at other institutions before contacting the author.

Although I'm generally leaning this way I don't think it is for everyone. I'm currently using serendipity with a whole block of custom code duck taped on for the non-blog areas of my personal site. When I put that code together it did ever

The advisability of using this tool has already been discussed so I'll ignore that aspect and critique the tool as is . . . - It isn't clear what's the significance of the master and slave pages. I know you have a paragraph of text on the

I've just noticed I'm comparing cases with deaths. Clearly some people will survive brain cancer. The death rate would appear to be 5.6 per 100,000 according to this source neuro-oncology.dukejournals.org/cgi/reprint/6/3/179.pdf It is wort

Would a government protect 100 acres? I also highly doubt it. If a thousand people grouped together and bought 100,000 acres collectively you might stand a chance.

It's an interesting writeup of the effect of distance on download speed but I would say it was more 'expected' than 'surprising'. I would have been a lot more surprised if download speed increased with distance.
