> What I do wonder is whether DOGE achieved any significant savings I don't think you actually wonder this because this information is easily and widely available with essentially zero effort. Not only were there no real cost saving

If you learn some of these, you'll also see how interconnected many of them are. A sheet bend and bowline knot are both wildly useful. But a bowline is just a single rope sheet-bent (sheet bended?) back onto itself! And a trucker'

Absolutely not. A blade can stay sharp for a much longer period of time than it can stay honed. The edge of a piece of paper is extremely sharp, but it only cuts you in specific circumstances due to being difficult to maintain a firm edge.

American suburbs feature poorly interconnected residential-only areas that sprawl endlessly. You can easily be a ten minute walk from a friend (through yards and across fences, not over a walking path) but a ten or fifteen minute drive away

Yeah, it’s crazy the number of people who scream about taking their cars from their cold, dead hands when people talk about adding some bike lanes, rolling out more public transit, or removing small amounts of parking for more human-centere

Honing is 1,000x more important than sharpening. When it does come time to sharpen, I constantly see places offering knife sharpening services, and they’re usually cheap enough. Or you could get a gizmo that does a mediocre job (and shaves

I would wager that’s exactly what the GP thinks. It was pretty clear to me they think the entire system is set up so that anyone with needs is milked to extract the maximum possible amount of money.

Because I have used all three OSes extensively, and this is pretty incontrovertible? Settings have been half-assed so many times that random options require going back three or four generations back into the control panel. Modal confirmatio

macOS has certainly fallen pretty far, but if we’re going to compare them, Windows is and has been a complete tire fire for well over a decade at this point.

> value of money is quite absolute You are conflating price and the value. I assure you that to a billionaire, $250,000 is of nearly no value at all.

On the flip side, I see very little actual hatred of Jews, either cultural or religious, but I do see a lot of people claiming that any kind of opposition to the IDF flattening Gaza is equivalent to Jew hatred.

I'll be honest, I hear this every single time. But I've never delayed upgrading, and I've never regretted it. That's not to say every upgrade has been a strict improvement, but going back to my first Mac at 10.4 (Tiger)

This is the mindset that will keep USB-A ports around forever. Somebody has to be the one to move the world forward, and it's usually Apple who's most willing to retire old ports. At this point I would kill for an Anker battery pa

While this is probably annoying, I have to imagine that non-hidpi displays are becoming rarer and rarer. It's probably not a great idea to spend a lot of work on a feature that will only ever see declining use.
