While I'm not generally in the habit of defending Apple's decisions, I'd argue that all of those examples have tradeoffs that improve function. I don't necessarily agree with the tradeoff, but improvements to function do exist. * The new st

The title is inaccurate here: they didn't add ads to the paid app, they added recommendations for other games made by the same company. The original title, with "ads" in quotes, is more appropriate.

If there were a <noads> tag to serve different content to people who will never ever click ads, I'd love to use it.

Not to mention that she gave a lot of personal history surrounding her parents and family history. That might not uniquely identify her, but it does narrow the search considerably. My guess: if he/she is even a single real person, much of t

I actually think the explosion of software engineering salaries (led by VC-funded SF startups) is responsible for this work attitude, not just glamorization of startup life. Larger companies (and even smaller companies that aren't ultra-rap

Lots of states, but not every state. California is also of particular importance because it's so big: nobody would care as much if Delaware had laws like this. However, in California, even if you only have a physical presence in some remote

They probably won't ever change their policies--I would venture to guess that the margin they gain from the affiliate program is less than 8% of their total revenue (which is very approximately what they would lose if they were forced to co

That's because California has tax-hungry laws concerning what defines a "nexus" (a business's presence in the state). It's difficult for many companies to avoid creating a California presence, so they're stuck collecting California sales t

The biggest issue I've noticed is when listings use a local reference for the location instead of a street address or intersection: for example, a Cambridge, MA listing might refer to "Kendall", a Portland, OR listing might refer to "alphab

That was just an example I pulled from nowhere, not something specific. I don't think TDK makes a 10uF/6.3V X7R cap (although I did notice the Octopart interface doesn't show temp spec/dielectric material as one of the specs that I can filt

I love Octopart and wish it would become even more wildly successful. However... The problem I have with Octopart and other "better search" engines (like Hipmunk, Padmapper, et al) is that the coverage is not 100%--not every item in invento

Sorry, but I think you're wrong. Google has no APIs which will give you the rank of a given site for a given keyword. If I'm mistaken, please correct me, I and 100,000 other developers would love to use said APIs.

It may be more black-hat than some attempts, but the most frustrating thing about this article is that it implies that paid links are a rare thing for e-commerce sites. Pick any shopping-related term, and the odds are overwhelming that the

My point was that you don't want the cookie to be sent to other subdomains, so you'd actually want to set the domain to X.y.z. You can't do that if you're web domain is y.z.
