Agree, although this is often an undeveloped skill in newer folks. There are many other things I like to discuss in an interview: past mistakes, things they are especially proud of, times they trimmed scope to meet a deadline, working with

Great question. I'm okay with someone who doesn't have public code, although they will have to work a little harder to verify their skills match their story. You have some public repos. That's plenty. Even some gists will

When I interview a candidate, I focus primarily on what they've done. Ideally they'd have a body of work online that I can view beforehand. Then I go through a high level system design and have a collaborative conversation. Las

Someone else pointed out the reason for the datatype. A more subtle problem is the use of double negatives. Boolean APIs like "disable" will throw off users of your API.

I do a variety of things, including iOS and web. Like you mentioned, LLM results between the two are very different. I can't trust LLM output to even compile, much less work. Just last night, it told me to use an API called `CMVideo

I love ClickOnce and am amazed that it never got that popular. Installs and updates are seamless. I wrote an inventory management program for my father's hazardous waste company. Used .net mvc as the backend, WPF as the frontend. WP

I'm working on a system that uses affordable hardware (iPhones) to make orthopedic surgery easier and more precise. Among other things, we have to track the position in space of surgical tools like drills. Models like this can play a

Wow I just got done integrating NextAuth. I will totally switch to this if you can support my mobile API. My nextjs app has some API routes used by my native iOS app. It was a bit of a hassle with NextAuth and I was surprised at the lack

I'm working on a device that records surgery and uses AI models to analyze the procedure for things like surgical technique, efficiency, instrument usage, blood loss, etc. We're starting with using it for medical education becaus

Named parameters and nothing new and I like them. To this day I don’t understand why swift/objc have two names. I get that one is external, one internal so changing external breaks APIs. So is the only advantage that you can rename

I did obj-c on a popular consumer app about 10 years ago. Recently had to make an app. I used async/await and SwiftUI heavily. Used observableobject and actors as well. It’s very nice, much like a React/typescript app. UIs us

Long time software engineer, just coming off 4 years of Kotlin into Go. Love-hate describes it for me. It's just not as much fun and feels sterile. I get the whole "just write the damn code" argument, but unfortunately for

I was in your situation a few years ago and took a job. I've saved more in the past couple years than all my other time combined. I will be financially independent by the time I'm 50, at which time I can do pretty much whatever

Where I live, we have a deer problem but houses are too close to hunt. I drive to my folk's place about an hour away to do it. Some towns hire professionals to take some out, but it's expensive. The meat does go to feeding the

I bow hunt deer in New Jersey. Hunting is sacred to me and I do it for the meat. It's great to see this shared here. CWD can be contained. Most hunters are aware of it and are doing their part to fight CWD. If you don't hunt,

Mr Wood, thanks for the great library that I use almost daily. I believe that leaving was the right thing to do. Take care of yourself, live your best life, and everything will be fine (including Moment.js).
