This is a great point. Looking at these apps, they're certainly not anything like ConvertBot or Instagram. As an app developer myself, I think I could have easily made most of these apps in my spare time without a ton of design skill, yet t

Hey Andrew! Curious why your podcasts don't show up in the iTunes feed until a few days later. I'm having to manually download this one because I'm so excited about it. :)

Looks like people are already squatting for app names too, which is lame. See: http://twitter.com/iTod/status/29635860674

I just got my rejection letter too. I have to say, though, that the whole experience has been great. Filling out the application really made me think a lot about my business, and what my pitch is. It's amazing the clarity that comes from wr

Committing on day 1 at IMVU is also a really important part of our culture. We want to make sure that new engineers hit the ground running and feel like they have the ability to contribute right away. We celebrate it, because it's an import

I fought this same issue with Routesy, my SF iPhone app, in 2009. Getting agencies to be smart about making data open is a challenge, but a lot of cities are coming around. Once agencies realize that they can not make a killing off apps a

This article gets my up-vote just for his joke about calling his testicles "The Resistance" ala "The Situation" on Jersey Shore. I needed a good chuckle today.

This video demo isn't very compelling. Typing the phrase about wanting to take one's girlfriend to a dance club returns a health club locator. Doesn't actually seem very semantic.

I'm not a therapist, but it seems to me that you should focus on what you're passionate about. It sounds like you're having a problem with other people (society, parents, etc.) telling you what's important in life and you're not buying into

CSS3 has gradient support in many modern browsers. Try using this tool to generate some CSS gradients that you can drop into your HTML tables to play with the colors: http://gradients.glrzad.com/

I really want to get one of the new Airs but my main issue is that developing for the iPhone using the iPhone 4 simulator takes up 724x1044 all by itself. I know it scales down, but it still sucks to have so few pixels. I went to the store

I've been feeling pretty down today about my thread being killed, wondering whether I had made some sort of mistake by posting it. However, this thread, and watching the Google Video, both have made me feel a lot better. Thanks for the supp

Where I work, we rely on continuous deployment as a core part of our business. Our Mac client is updated really frequently, and I can only imagine how long we'll have to wait between releases. While I think the App Store is an interesting p

It's interesting -- I got an OptiBay mounting kit for my 17" MacBook Pro, and now I've replaced the optical drive with a 1TB extra hard drive, in addition to the 256GB SSD I've already got. It's awesome to be able to carry my entire iTunes

My experience with Routesy (a public transit prediction application) is that it continues to sell steadily over time, even when it's not updated for a long time, and even when it's not new anymore. I think there's a major difference between

It seems like this might cannibalize iPad sales to some extent, no? A $999 11" MacBook with 64GB of storage is an awfully good deal compared to the top-of-the-line iPad choice, isn't it?

At first I was surprised that the traffic has tanked so much for sex.com, because I figured every teenager would enter it into the browser because it's so easy to think of. But when I went to Google (even with safe search off) and type "sex

I wonder if I'll go from being called "Steven" to "Steve" when I'm a billionaire. I would think that having that much money would make you want to use your formal name more.

I think of it as being similar to the questions about other types of minorities as startup founders. The gay community is pretty distinctive, and I'm curious to see if there's any overlap between that and the tech community. Didn't mean to

I'll chime in too. I've worked with Chad at IMVU for almost 4 years now, and here's my opinion, for what it's worth. I actually think that continuous deployment makes it significantly easier to do proactive refactoring. One of our favorite

The point of the article is not only about eating alone. It's about realizing that you probably have lots of small blocks of idle, wasted time during the day: Walking around and talking to co-workers, taking too long to get ready in the m
