Defining dimensions in inches, cm or points for screen use is a big bag of hurt that should be avoided at all costs.

As a front end developer, I get most of my assets in PSD format. Although the uptake of mobile browsers (and the corresponding use of media queries) is slowly chipping away at Photoshop as a web design tool, Photoshop files are still the mo

Sure, but if the fonts are licensed for being downloaded from your website (which isn't the case with typekit) it should not matter. I think the crux of the biscuit here is does the license allow you to host and serve the fonts, or mus

If the license supports website usage, I can't see that it would matter which mechanism you used to deliver the font to the browser.

I recently mulled this over on a project. If you have to support multiple font formats to support a variety of browsers, I think the http request latency is less of a factor than forcing all browsers to download all formats even if they won

Naw, it sucks up here in stumptown. Rains all the time. Can't find a decent pint of beer or cup of coffee to save your life. Place is full of hipsters -- have you seen Portlandia? You wouldn't like it. Best stay away.

What you want to make (modern) screen readers not try and parse the table semantics is to set the role to presentation: <table role="presentation">

We sorta had that already. It was called Flash (or Silverlight, etc. pick your poison) and while it was easier for authors to do many things, it sucked for users in more ways than I can count.

You're comparing a layout engine for print where the creator has control over all aspects of the presentation (font size, page size, etc.) with CSS where the content is displayed in an environment where the user is in control of many o

Centering content of unknown dimensions (and since the user is ultimately in control of font size this happens often) vertically is surpringly difficult to do if you want to support legacy browsers. It's a common pain point. There are

I'm surprised that nobody (not even the article) has mentioned the militarization of police as a symbiotic factor. Surely the desire for SWAT units (and all the fancy toys that go along with them) fuels this practice -- and in return,

Indeed, I hate, hate onswipe "enhanced" sites. Bad enough you have to wait for the redirect and then all the assets to load (they are always slow) but then there are even more annoyances. There is no way to retain a preference for the regul

Adobe used to allow upgrades fron any version to the latest for the same upgrade price. That changed somewhere around the time of CS1 to only allow upgrades from 2 versions back, then down to 1. As a longtime Illustrator (v88) and Photoshop

Nope, it's way more complicated than that. Device pixels, CSS pixels, a pixel is not a pixel. PPK on the subject: http://fronteers.nl/congres/2012/sessions/a-pixel-is-not-a-p... Points are a terrible unit for specifying font sizes for the

window.navigator is useless as screen readers run on top of the browser. If you know that little about screen readers you probably shouldn't be opining on a11y issues.
