I think typically UK google employees make less than SV but also significantly more than most software jobs in the UK. The guy I know is really good and did research in undergrad related to a niche Google is interested in.

I know a UK google employee who is a new college grad and gets 5 weeks of vacation per year on top of 8 bank holidays. And their salary is higher than most US Google new grads. They are working at a US company, but at least they are still p

It’s only half of the discrentionary budget, which itself is roughly half of the total budget. And with the pending trade war with our Allies and Trump’s threats to NATO this point may not be valid much longer.

Was there another smartphone platform he could have used at the time that would have been less work to secure? A secure smartphone for the President seems well worth the effort.

Yes you also have to take memory access into account if you are doing a proper big O analysis, but not for the reasons you implied. I don’t think you are thinking about time complexity correctly. The question is not how long does a memory a

You definitely have to take the time complexity of addition/multiplication into account when doing big O analysis. But in most cases they are O(1). It is the constant factors you don’t worry about.

If you go to a hotel the people in your life expect you to come back in a reasonable amount of time and start asking questions if you don't.

I can’t reallly understand what you are trying to say. But I think most people here would agree that running a company that does something useful is better than just sitting on patents and suing people for infringing on them.

Uhh, none of those are patent trolls. Sure they may sue their competitors but they actually make products. Patent trolls by definition do not.

The thermostats still worked and you could walk over and manually turn it up/down. You just couldn’t use your phone to do it, which is not too big of an issue.

I the the idea was you wouldn’t have to give out the key to renters and could just give them passcode/phone access, so it actually would be removing an attack vector.

Yeah as I’ve researched smart home stuff I’ve become more and more impressed with HomeKit. The HomeKit devices talk to iOS devices over the LAN and then an Apple TV acts as the “bridge” that lets you control your house over the internet. It

I don't think any technically minded people on HN are extrapolating what this system is capable of doing, but are (rightly IMO) extrapolating what kind of systems will be announced in 2, 5, 10, etc. I think even HN is greatly underes

Also, just because the screen is 8k doesn’t mean the entire image needs to be rendered at 8k. They could track the eyes and render the focus point at native resolution while the periphery could be reduced (foveated rendering).

The only thing I can think of is maybe the 8700 has better binning and is able to hit its turbo speed while putting out less heat and so is able to maintain its turbo speeds for longer than the 8700k. I think it is more likely to just be te
