Why not just use tar or any other archive tool on the repository .git folder? Unless your repository is a un-gc'd mess with millions of unpacked objects...

It's the actual flash creation software, not flash players or flash games for anyone curious. They seem to just work on Windows 10 without needing to look up workarounds, but they crash often in my experience.

They've already gotten rid of the .compact frontend and actively removed workarounds/aliases that users discovered when it was first removed. Old reddit is definitely next up on the chopping block.

Tape absolutely isn't viable for the consumer at all, but definitely worth exploring for the novelty. Even if you manage to get a pretty good deal on a legacy LTO system (other formats don't even come close to the tb/$ of 10+

It's not just limited to tape, most archiving and backup software is proprietary. It's impossible to open Acronis or Macrium Reflect images without their Windows software. In Acronis's case they even make it impossible to use
