I don't buy HATEOAS--this notion that clients will be adaptive enough to take advantage of changes in the rel/whatever links seems unlikely. (E.g. I can't see a client going "oh!, there's a new business function I haven't seen yet, let me i

I have the best luck staying on task by doodling--keep a pad of paper and pen on my desk, and while waiting for compiling/whatever, just draw. It's like being bored in class but still needing to pay some amount of attention. http://www.npr

I agree, just rendering is a server-side notion that obviously can work on the client-side, but I don't think is ideal. Web 1.0/server-side templates had to render and sling strings of HTML around because that's all you could do (Rails's RJ

I don't use lift-the-web-framework, but after looking around at the scala json options, decided on and am so far really liking lift-json's package. Does any of raw string <-> JSON AST, or maps/lists <-> JSON (...IIRC), or ca

Dispatch is so often used as an example of hard to read Scala code/operator overloading abuse, that I think it should be shuttered just for the greater good of the Scala community. That being said, programmers can over-engineer things in an

Agreed, I'm not going to say Java syntax is awesome (it's not), but I think the "over-architecting" attitude you mention has done far more to drive people away from Java (e.g. the great Ruby exodus) than the syntax itself.

Yeah, I can't believe JPA/most ORMs don't maintain both sides of a relationship. That sort of stuff should just work. I implemented my own ORM ( http://joist.ws ) a few years ago to solve this and my other JPA/Hibernate annoyances. It works

FWIW, GWT's UiBinder takes a similar, absolutely-no-logic approach to templates. No iteration even: http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/DevGuideUiBinde... Takes awhile to get used to, but it's nice to have all your logic in the c

This will give you r/1232: https://github.com/stephenh/git-central/blob/master/server/p... (It makes a tag-per-commit; I'm not saying that's necessarily a good idea, but if you really want revision numbers...)

Posted a comment on the site, but to me the real win comes when you add grep to your aliases. That saves a ton of keystrokes, assuming you have deep directories in your project: http://www.draconianoverlord.com/2010/03/04/git-config.html
