Actually I think these comments are usually moderated out pretty heavily on HN. Anything that does not add to the discussion is usually removed. I was surprised to see the comment you replied to still in the thread.

Interestingly even in this use case I believe PostgreSQL would be my choice, although as you said it is a silly setup. I had not taken into account particularly narrow implementations that rely on specific Oracle pieces, I could see some go

I noticed you said "nearly nothing", what are some exceptions? I'm curious why anyone would start using Oracle now. The only reason I would see to use it is because you are reasonably dependent on it already and cannot migrat

Incredibly valuable information in the article. I appreciate how transparent you guys are and I'm genuinely thankful for you sharing the experience.

The amount of cringe is literally unfathomable. Django huh, what happened to the super complex tech stack? This company is a joke.

That's true, everything is relative and it also depends what scale of market data you require. I think it's quite cheap to get end of day stock prices but if you want real time market data it gets steep. The closer you get to actu

Generally third party apps will get data from market data providers like xignite etc. And where does xignite get the data? They pay for sessions to receive market data directly from all of the exchanges they care about. This data is not che

Yeah, that would be my first thought as well. It seems like a challenge to attach users to something like this when it exists outside of an application they already use (eg. Facebook et al). I would be interested in an update down the line

Yours being so successful on here has inspired me to fix all of the little issues with mine haha, I'll try to Show HN as well when mine is half as pretty as yours is.

I felt the same way about Trakt and also tried another site that has 200k active users called sharetv and used it for a while out of necessity. The lean feature-clean approach is better I agree.

Awesome job dude, this is shockingly similar to something I built (although yours has way better UX!) and I also had the same feeling that spurred you to build this in the first place. I track everything I watch through my profile on my sit

And it's an aggregating effect. I did not realize this was a problem until 4-5 months into my first job in an open office. It takes a toll on productivity for sure. I notice I work way more relaxed and get more done when the people nea

http://www.overseer.tv this is my show tracking app, could definitely use some UI/UX love. I came up with everything by wireframing on a piece of paper and then trying my best. https://github.com/smtheard&#x

The main project I worked on that had redux saga was a very simple concept that I think would have had no problem without it. There was no complex behavior. I think your insight about over-engineering would definitely apply here. It was apa

Strongly agree having worked on projects that use redux-saga. More difficult to debug, more magic, no real benefits. I would love to be proven wrong however.

thaaaaaaaaat's a great point. I use it very often. Daily for probably 4 years? more? It's likely that I am misjudging the usability given that it's basically a small extension of my life.

Opposite experience here. I usually reference FB as an example of a very close to optimal user experience given the magnitude of functionality. Rarely lost, easily discoverable, easy to use.

Yeah, I live in Houston and can totally see what you mean. I think I could reasonably get down to 30k and be pretty comfortable. I let lifestyle inflation hit me harder than it should have and that's what I'm dealing with now. I m

I agree with your approach and that is what I have implemented so far as well. As much as I would love to have the 40-60 hours a week I work back to myself, it is just much too difficult for me to live off of only 20k or less per year. I am

I see, I hadn't considered the "lean fi/re" approach. I guess by that definition you can retire much much earlier than you would think normally. I can't imagine living off of only 20-25k per year during my retirment

What avenue is there to retire at 30 if you make 200k by 25? I must be missing something massive.

Is there more to this? How can they just close an account with $1500 that you earned and call it a day? If what you're saying is true there's no question that it has happened to thousands of other people too.

I am referencing "component" as a more general term. I think Vue has support for all of the common forms/divs/etc, I was more talking about like if you wanted an extensible calendar implementation or a scalable data tabl

This has been my experience as well. With react if I need something I can generally find a component someone else has already made that is well supported / decent quality. With Vue I will generally have to roll my own.

That was an odd one to read, being in Houston. I thought somehow you added wildcards that were auto filled with the users location, I then realized that I'm an idiot.

Have you written anything about your experience executing whatever you did to make that happen? I would be interested in hearing more, I always like hearing stories about how developers think of something, make it, and then generate revenue
