Portable, yes, I do, although it's now almost two years old and the age shows when compiling. But on the other hand, I whip out my core i7, compile something and the battery is drained after an hour and a half. Disclaimer: the two year old

It's easy to notice the difference in the map app. Click the bus route button. Instead of the normal times listed, you get rerouted to a blank page on the App Store.

Forgive me, but how exactly do you "teaser" 140 characters? Or am I misunderstanding and you are more meaning they show a few of the users tweets so you know kind of what they talk about. I don't spend much time on any of the social sites s

I'm on the fence myself. And yeah, when the most used app is the maps for transit directions it does leave a bad taste to go from something that worked great (most of the time) to something that doesn't work for your needs at all. Am I stil

While I agree that people are people, they are also consumers. And he's talking about the consumer market, not enthusiasts adding it to their own systems so in this context it makes sense.

The new quad core ARM boxes are actually quite good. My own personal use case is different but as a Gentoo developer it's nice to see something like Firefox "only" take 3 hours to compile. Which is really good when trying to debug issues be

I've been using the same vimrc (and gvimrc) for at least 4 years (minor tweaks when something breaks, of course). But 99% of the time, it's identical and set up exactly how I like it, versus the magical GUI IDEs that change where options ar

I didn't take it as a joke based on his phrasing of all the other criticisms of the site. Perhaps I over reacted, but immediately jumping on it being a scam because the site isn't pretty enough (and isn't ready to actually take orders) seem

Chromium maybe. I'm not sure there are any Chromebooks based on ARM yet although there seems to be a profile for building tegra2 devices. I know the Trimslice is supposed to be able to run it but I haven't actually seen a software release o

There are no ARM with complete open source because they all have the GPU integrated. The Mali is probably the closest to open due to the LIMA project with the Freedreno project backing Qualcomm's Adreno (and maybe work with the Freescale mx

Wow. As someone who is actually active in the A10 community, I know Tom and this is not a scam. Some people focus more on developing cool shit than on their website.

It does use X11, but ChromeOS uses its own WM (chromewm). If you check out the sources for ChromiumOS, you can see what all it uses, although there are parts that Google add on top. There are ways to run native apps on it, but they are defi

Wait what? People search on Facebook for content? Maybe for content of what their friends are up to. I've never considered a social networking site to be a search engine, and considering Facebook's abysmal attempts at targeted marketing (th

Forgive me, but I fail to see how this is related to 3.0. Everyone creates their own branch but they don't always include everything in a pull request. I don't have a Kinect myself, but even so, wouldn't it be bigger news if Microsoft wrote

Nothing in the GPL states that the source has to be posted online at the time you release a binary, what it states is that you must provide it to customers (people who have/use your binaries) at their request .

Flash sucking on tablets, phones, or even netbooks (at least ARM based), isn't entirely Adobe's fault. The SoC manufacturers are tasked to get Flash working on their chipsets. That means nVidia, Freescale, TI, Samsung, Apple. Adobe's NDA

Actually he isn't violating the GPL. The GPL states that you have to make it available when requested, and as a mechanism of your choosing. It doesn't say you have to put the source code on the web so that others can access it easily. I'm t

I've re-installed various versions of the iOS software. You just go in to iTunes and shift-click the Restore or Check for Updates button and choose any version. I am not an iOS developer and have had no issues in going between 4.2 and 4.

Empathy (the default IM client) uses webkit to render it's themes. It is quite likely to be a shared library. On natty, webkit is fairly hefty at 24MB but it doesn't take Empathy long to load at all. And by the time your login manager has s

I'm not quite sure how changing the login manager counts as a controversial decision unless you were meaning just the unity issue. The login manager has one main job and really shouldn't be a huge convoluted mess of code (from experience GD
