It does stand in sharp contrast to the more personal and direct efforts one could make to show their appreciation to say, their family.

Professional programmers simply get paid to write code. Any further illusions one may have about them are personal and subjective. Also, server side JS is an absolute hard no for many, many server side devs who became server side devs afte

I’ve done it twice. Mass migration off Oracle and before that DB2 and Sybase. Current system is also occasionally sold on premise to customers who have their own db preference and we can support them all.

I've never worked on a system where we didn't make an effort to make sure we were NOT dependent on a specific DB vendor/implementation and avoiding SP's has always been a part of that.

I don’t know, I’ve seen maybe 10 in my 25 years in the industry and they were mostly all at the start of my career in a mainframe shop. I ‘taught’ them AIX as we moved a critical system off the big iron onto a RISC system. I don’t think I

25 years doing dev work, also never used anything more than basic arithmetic. I barely passed my college math requirements - still don’t understand what calculus is for, never came up writing CRUD apps.

That 73% number sounds fudged. I’m sure they have some justification, but they’re proven liars.

I’m American and I’ve enjoyed every country in Europe I’ve been to. As far as know, none of those countries would allow me the freedom to work as I do here and I doubt I could find a house large enough for my family of 6 or the 20 ac

This is the norm from my perspective over the last 25 years. I was a contractor once and while I sat at a tiny desk in a hallway and wasn’t invited to the ice cream parties I know I was paid better than all the FTE as they tried recruiting

It's at odds with prevailing modern attitudes. The majority of talented devs of the millennial generation are excited to work for FAANG and don't have the innate distrust/hate of big corporations the previous generations of

They’re some weird millennial idea that’s taken hold over the last ten years that when you get terrible service somewhere it’s in bad taste to voice that to the representative of the company you’re currently with, to save them the hassle.

Not everyone voted for or agrees with the current DA’s opinion. As a taxpayer, I don’t mind keeping cops doing nothing on the payroll as I know when the backlash begins and we get a new DA they’re ready to start work again with no delay.

Outside of FAANG, roles aren't guaranteed to be this specialized. If you can't adjust and expect it to be done like they did it at your FAANG, you're going to have a tough time being productive.
