I read the very first message of the thread as "if you're going to regulate something, regulate that we should be able to pay without requiring Google", ie with Graphene and the like. I didn't read it as an attack on Gra

You're begging the question. The entire premise of this thread is "we should be able to pay without infesting our phone with corporate malware".

Yeah, anything waterproof is going to be a problem. I'm curious to see how the new EU laws on battery replacement deal with this.

Yeah, it's a tragedy that we throw devices away because the battery has a short expiration date :/ At least I guess watches are on the more understandable end of the "hard to repair" continuum.

This is why the Steam Machine is worth its money (or, well, what it would have cost if RAM hadn't gone to the sky). Getting 90% of the nice-to-haves costs $200, but getting 100% costs $1000. "It just works" is expensive.

Seriously, please don't throw away perfectly functioning hardware just to avoid unscrewing a few screws.

I got bullied at school, but I'm not sure the solution would be to not let anyone in school talk to me :/

Agreed, it's "open weights". Open source would be to publish the entire process so you could tweak it if you wanted.

Wait, Luna Max and Terra Xhigh are about as good as DS4 Flash Max? That's huge if true.

Admittedly I'm not sure how an amputation fetish works. I don't know if it's about the act of amputation itself or if he liked looking at amputee porn, for example. Like someone might have a humiliation fetish but not actuall

Why do I care if someone wants to amputate their own legs? The only issue here is the insurance fraud, if that happened.

Wait, why not post LLM slop to LinkedIn? I made it a point to only post LLM slop to help LinkedIn die faster. It is a worthy pursuit.

Why does the cache mean "nobody requested this in a while, I can drop it" rather than "this may have changed upstream, I'll drop it"?

I don't think so, I think the problem is that it's overdone, not that it's bad per se. It's like in 2013, when every site was Bootstrap.

Stock Claude writing is extremely obvious to me, it always uses the same sentence structure, it loves to verb nouns, every sentence has MAX IMPACT, etc. I find it really offputting nowadays, just because it's so overused.

I have a NAS at home with ZFS snapshots and nightly offsite backups. What's so hard about that, or how is it less durable than your S3 solution?

That's what I've always thought as well. The driver could also fit in the standard sockets that bulbs fit in now, with the socket/LED interface being a different standard connector.

I've read half of the first book but didn't enjoy it as much as the show. I wasn't really a fan of the writing and the show rearranged some storylines around that, in my opinion, gave the story better pacing.
